What to do about this spot.

I think maybe some contaminants found there way into my astrolux fto3 during the time that my lens was broken. I’ve replaced the lense but there’s a spot in the middle of my beam. Noticed emitter is brownish. What should I do? Dedome? Mineral spirits or a razor blade? I’ve never de domed a light before… just leave it alone ?

Looks like an XHP50.2. The brown spot is under the dome, so it’s not caused by anything getting inside. This type of failure is usually caused by overheating, and I don’t think it’s possible to save this emitter.

If you are out of warranty, I would learn soldering and reflow a newer, better emitter in. Assuming 3V configuration, a SFT42R would make it a formidable thrower. For high output flood with excellent tint, the LHP531 is the ideal replacement. Both are available from Convoy.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I’ll give it a shot.
