I’ve got a spare 6D MagLite that I want to mod. Looking for ideas.
I’ve already got another 6D with an XP-E drop-in, a 3D with an XP-G R5 and aspheric and I’m part way through doing a 6 Q5 drop in with 2x 26650’s into a 2D. I’ve also got a MagCharger which is still an incan (although I have messed about with a Phillips 5761 bulb).
So I’d like to avoid repeating anything already done/doing. I’m not really interested in a ROP or other incan mod, want to go LED with it. And while I don’t mind some custom work, I’m not really a fabricator. I’d also like to keep it looking stock, so stock Mag head.
My initial thoughts were maybe an XM-L thrower with SMO reflector and 12 Eneloops (7.2v) but I’d like some suggestions (and links…. )
Can you still buy metal reflectors or should I be looking at modding a MagCharger reflector for this?
I’d get an XM-L, a Maglite heatsink, and a buck driver and do a XM-L mod as you were thinking about. Or get a larger/thicker heatsink and do a SST-90/SBT-90 mod with the right buck driver or even direct drive off 4-5 batteries (voltage sag should put them at the right current and voltage.
Of course, the SST-90/SBT-90 mod would cost much more.
I have two 6D's and they're great to stack bills/old paperwork on. Alternate use: taking up space and/or reminding me that I forgot why I bought the damn things.
My 4 D was a gift..So it has a special place in my heart ..I cherish it ...So much so It has a duracell/energizer Alkaline which has leaked and welded itself inside it .....Once every year I break out a foot long screwdriver and a hammer and pound on it some more .Cutting it down just seems like such a pain .
