The Maeerxu has a really good build quality. It feels solid in my hand. The button click is also good. The one I got doesn’t have the RGB secondaries. So the UI is pretty basic. If it has the secondaries, the UI is overly complex. However, the parts are a standard size. So they can be easily swapped for Convoy parts.
Did you get that second hand from someone that was able to grab a black Friday mystery box? Spyderco seconds are usually just in my limited experience.
I missed out on this year’s sale. Last year a lot of people were quite unhappy with what they received, but it seemed this year was the opposite. I saw very many M390 orange Shamans, Maxamet Paras, and Massad Ayoobs. All my information here is coming from r/Spyderco, so ymmv.
I’m a different person but I also bought the same light in brown on 11/11.
The button on mine is kinda mushy and scrape-y at times, but the light’s size is my favorite form factor, shorty 18350. This one has a single bigger LED.
Mine came with a green-tinted but bright cool white SST40, I swapped mine out for a slightly warmer led with better color rendering. I also replaced the driver with a 22mm Convoy driver, because I didn’t know if the stock driver allowed me to disable mode memory so that it always comes on in low brightness.
They also make a triple emitter version that has RGB secondary modes, but (I think) only in Titanium, brass, and copper, for 2-3x the price (around $20-30 vs around $60). I have a brass triple one, and the button on that one feels much better. the triple is a bit shorter in overall height than the single one in @worrub918 's post, like 2-3mm?
As mentioned, great build quality, nice anodization, feels great in the hand. I like mine a lot and am also considering getting the blue or red one.
Very nice. Did you order a light at the same time? I’ve emailed Hank asking to buy parts and he wasn’t very receptive to the idea, but admittedly this was a few years ago.
I ordered a chunk of emitters and then started an email chain with him.
Hank is the best - he seems willing to send whatever at an extremely reasonable rate.
I bet they’ll be pretty neat in a triple with Carclo 10507. Currently have 519A’s in one but they have a huge problem with blue spike and cyan dip, I’m hoping that the SST20 90CRI does a better job here (at least at low currents), as Luminus typically does.
First Magnacut knife. I call all of these style knives bugout clones, but this one is pretty great on first impression. Much better than the Bugout and fake bugout I had.
I do not like that the clip protrudes past the scales, and will be looking for a replacement clip, but other than that it’s great.
Forgot to mention it was basically free. I had a gift card and it was on sale for $99.99.
another edit: I replaced the Kershaw clip with the one from the Walmart Ozark Trail Ridgeline (G10/tanto/mystery steel liner lock) after drilling countersink holes into its clip. Sticks out a lot less.
Some small haul.
First is just bunch Cree XP-E2’s in 480nm, 595nm, and 620nm. The 480nm is really nice, it is more of an azure than a cyan since it lack the green tint to it.
I’am so tempted to swap this into my K1 Azure.
And also trying out the Osram SU CULFP1.VC, 270nm 130mW UCV diode. Might grab more and solder them onto those quad 3535 board.
These NBT/NBD emitters seems to be quite popular lately in China, the one that I got is NBD50 Ultra or NBD50-9/55e (Mouthful. I assume its 55mil chip?).
There was also NBD70-16 and NBD160-64; all using the 55mil chip.
The solder pads is very similar to Nightwatch N5-165HPE, with wider thermal pad in the middle for better heat transfer. Also the LES of this thing is almost the same as LHP73B.
It still can be soldered to a standard 5050 board, but I wouldn’t push this over 20A without leveraging the thermal pad with proper MCPCB.
And the weirdest one is probably this WP-RX LEP module from Blue Lake, the seller was being nice by sending one that is already mounted on this Bi-LED projector for free.
But this thing is so cursed, like who is using LEP for their high beam.
I’am too lazy to take picture of it, but there is bunch of artifacts in the beam but it still have a very concentrated hotspot typical of an LEP.
Got the Big Benji on a whim cuz it was on sale ($13+) and I liked the little one I already owned. Also got the ELLO glass containers as I’m trying to eliminate some plastic. Of course they went on sale the day I received mine.
