Whats the best way to measure the "level" of Graphite?

In the Attachment, is it possible to measure the “level” of the graphite? I’m looking for a tool, that can measure in three points at the same time, with some indication of level.

Needs to be done without taking the assembly apart, nor it is possible to place a bubble level on the graphite…

How much money do you have to spend? I can think of several tools that could do this no problem in just a few seconds but none are cheap…

It depends how much man hours it will save me…

You could use a laser level pretty easily with a little inguniety setting it up. Also a 3D laser scanner but that’s several thousand doars but literally a few seconds of work, there is NO setup like with a laser level, just point and shoot (holding it by hand).

I WAS thinking of a laser level, googled different keywords - didn’t find much.

I guess the difficulty is that I need to measure it trough glass/quartz and the Item inside the quartz (graphite) needs to be leveled: perfectly straight. I would imagine a tool that takes a reading at three different positions, and displays that information on a screen in real time. From three the graphite can be adjusted and I’d be set.

If you think there is something that can do that, please let me know!

What axis do you need to measure it on? I can’t tell from your 2d drawing.

I was refering to one of those laser line levels for carpentry type work. You could get it setup projecting it’s line and then allign your work piece visually to that line. That’s probably the cheapest using high tech equipment.

You could (assuming you’re trying to level it horizontally) use a plumbline the old school way.

The problem with using a laser is the beam will be bent when it refracts as it enters/exits the glass.

it should be bend everywhere in the “same” way so it could be calibrated…

A really big question is what means leveled and what means measured? Accuracy really is important, so what are you aiming for?

I have seen triangulation laser sensors for regulating thickness and in some way surface too from metal, paper and other stuff.

I’m just posting to say that I’m curious about what’s going on here. I’m just subbing to hear about the purpose of this assembly and to hear about what results & precision are finally achieved. :slight_smile:
