I know everyone’s budget is different but was wondering what’s the most you’ve ever spent on a new torch. Reason I ask is that I’ve just about talked myself into spending $180.00 on a new light (TN32). Bad part is I’m almost embarrassed to tell anyone how much it costs. I’m sure it will impress all those that see it but almost 200….really? Anyone else in the same boat?
Tbh, 180$ isn’t that much for some that go over 300/400$ on a light i paid 169$ for my ex tk75 and lately 215$ for a laser
$35 on a Securitying SRK clone .
I spent $200 on the tm26 and regret it, but I spent just under that on the MM15 and X60 and I really like those two lights.
$150 for a custom Olight S10 -
I spent $40 on a Inova X5.
Then I bought another one for my dad,
of course his was the new model so I had to buy myself another one to keep up.
:8)
Next was a Fenix P3D for about $75
All of them are too weak now and use CR 123 batteries so I keep them as spares
On a new off-the-shelf light most I’ve ever spent was $220 however I have several project lights I have well over that in building. My single most expensive build was <$675 and there are several <$400. I have to look at it differently as a business selling lights however, I’m not paying just for the light / sum of the parts, I also have to figure in R&D costs and development costs and dont forget failed prototypes (add up fast)
The single most expensive project I’ve ever completed was over $1000 by the time I built all the prototypes and got the first light ready to sell (this is the total on parts / hosts / fee’s to my helper’s). On the same note, I once had to scrap a project I sunk $450 in cause there just was no way to finish.
Dont feel bad about your TN32, I’ve just bought $140 worth of emitters for my outdated TN30! Yes 3 emitters (LEDENGIN LZ1 UV’s) are $45 each!
Dont even get me started on lasers…
Most ever out-of-pocket cash monie$ was $35 for a working light. (My TR-1200 a few years ago).
I have other more expensive lights that were purchased using store reward points via Manafont, but they aren't ones I would have purchased otherwise.
Once you start combining the cost of additional hardware to mod lights, along with several generations of upgrades, things get more expensive.
Example, my favorite P60:
Host: 504b from Manafont: $8
Original UltraFire 3-mode drop-in - $16
Self-built drop-in using Nanjg 105C/XM-L/module ~$10
New self-built drop-in using Nanjg 105C/XM-L2/module ~ another $10
Random additional WW drop-in just to play with the emitter tint ~ another $10...
$50 in this light alone...
$350 - S6330vn.
$320 - RC40vn.
$300 - X60vn.
$285 - S6330vn.
The X60Mvn would have been my most expensive light to date, but I had to drop out from the preorder due to lots of unexpected and huge expenses.
Btw, two of these are for sale now ;)
$650 - SureFire Hellfighter (New). And this is considered a “steal”
I hate to say this and have mentioned it else where that I believe that this is a bargain price for what you get. If I was to set out to build a light like this in parts alone would cost a lot more without allowing for the weeks to build it.
I was using the TN32 and TN35 again last weekend. The TN32 is an orsm thrower with a tiny hotspot where the TN35 has a lot larger hotspot and less throw. Both orsm lights. The after sales service to me anyway left a lot to be desired. Have fun with your new light.
orsm…trying to decipher that. Little help please.
Awesome. Thats it Orsm.
Totally agree. Tn32 represents a good value on a custom modded factory light. Folks here certainly understand this but the average person….maybe not so much. $20.00 maglight and they are good to go. Tell most that you spent serious money and they begin to question your frugality.
TN32 = Modded TN31. It really is a very safe and good choice in the world of stock flashlights.
As for being embarrassed about the price... how is that any different from guys who wear thousand dollar watches (that more often then not are off by a few minutes) or girls that spend absurd (imo) amounts of money on very uncomfortable shoes?
Recently, that would be the Maratac™ Copper Cr123a light for around $50.
But, including inflation, the $20 that I paid for my first lithium battery light, a Tekna Microlith, was actually more. That was before my flashlight addiction got serious, and I had a real use for it: backpacking. It was incandescent, but bright enough for wilderness use and not much heavier than the $0.69 polyethylene 1 x AA, lens fronted bulb light it replaced.
Being a Budget light forum and all, not sure I really want to answer this truthfully.
I would say my “grail” is a Cool Fall Spy 007. If you don’t know what it is, google it and there a few videos and links. Super neat light. I think everyone must own one. Ha! :money_mouth_face:
