Sitting here looking at a new multimeter I want and wondered what’s everyones setup for mods. Dmm, hot air station? With soldering iron? Etc. The meter I am looking at is a Greenlee DM-820A, any comments on that? I know it’s a pro model but my last cheap one sucked.
For that price why not get a Fluke?
$130 new vs 87v $300 used is why.
Where are you getting it for $130? Also why did you compare to the 87v model specifically?
Greenlee is a very nice meter made by Brymen for the US market. If it’s the newer DM820A it’s the same thing as the Brymen BM859, which is up there with the Fluke for cheaper.
I recommend you get a clamp meter too that does DC current for measuring tail cap current. You can use the dmm for that, but the reading will be off by quite a bit due to resistance in probes, meter, etc.
A good soldering station or iron is essential. 60W is good because it makes soldering to mcpcbs or soldering to pills easy. I recommend a temperature controlled one with variable output. If moneys not an object, Hakko is a good one. If you want to get a nice one that works good and has the internal heater tips for around $30 I like my Quicko/Hakko T12 clone station. Good quality solder too. I like Kester 44.
Everything else like needle nose pliers, s9de cutters, etc.
The lower flukes I saw didnt have a low mAh reading, and cost just as much. So I pulled that model. As far as the 130 it’s a side deal locally. I am just trying to get a good setup, do you see anything wrong with that model?
Thank you. I think I actually looked at the clones. Will take another look.
The quickie look good but so does the ts 100 , forgot about that one. Lol
TS100 is nice too. Has the tips with heaters built in so you get really fast what up. The only thing ts100 gives you that the Stm32 based units don’t is the ability to do custom firmware with it, plus it’s more portable.
Pound for pound Kester is actually cheaper than the Chinese solder sold at Amazon.
