Which flashlight?!

Hello everyone!

Until now I have only used those anoying cheap 3xAAA flashlights that have multible led’s, change brightness every two seconds and somehow manage to drain battaries very quickly.
So, I guess It’s about time for a better and brighter flashlight. The problem is that there is just so much choice, I really didn’t know there were so many flashlights.
Could you guys give me some advice?

This is what I would like:

- Very bright

- Not to big, so maybe a single 18650 battarie? It needs to fit in my pocket

- Ipx 7 or 8

- When possible free shipping to The Netherlands (sites like banggood and dx.com)

- Max 45 EUR, including battarie and eu charger

- I really like a straight line design (e.x. the convoy s2/4)

  • Good quality

Maybe these?:

- Fenix e35 ultimate edition, or is this maybe too bright? I really have no clue what 900 lumens looks like irl

  • Convoy s4, this one seems quite cheap for what you get

Do you have any recomendations of advice? :quest:

(sorry for my bad english)

Convoy S8 looks really good with fins on the head for better heat transfer. Cheap alternative to PD35 or TN12.

Ha Tijmen, je engels is prima!

Welcome to BLF!

There is many options for what you want. I think the suggestions you did yourself are very good already.

I convinced a friend of mine to buy a Fenix UC-40, which looks to me like a USB-rechargable version of the E-35. I get to play with it when it arrives, so I can give an impression :-)

Thanks for your quick reply.

Looks like a good flashlight and half the cost of a e35. How bright is this in comparison to the Fenix e35 ue? And is the build quility good?

Bedankt!
Had niet gedacht hier een Nederlander te zien!

The Fenix uc-40 looks like a great flashlight indeed, too bad its 60 EUR…

Nog meer kaaskoppen ?!

I’m still waiting for mine to arrive. If you choose *8 driver the current will be 2.8A or a little lower when in actual use. Convoy flashlights normally have great build quality.

ehm… What’s a driver?
And is 2.8 A a good or a bad thing? :quest:

I’m new to all this

Oh sorry me too. The driver using 7135 chips. 1*7135=350mA so 8*350mA= 2800mA You can estimate the lumens will be around 700-900 (if I’m not mistaken) on high but there are other factors too like your battery, heat level, reflector etc.

The 8x driver will provide about 3A through the led, for great output that is a good thing, it will be about 900 lumens, comparable with the Fenix. The Fenix will have a bit better reflector and a anti-reflection coating on the glass, so it will perform a bit better, but in my opinion not 40 dollars better.

Here at BLF we also like flashlights that can be opened up and change internal parts. Convoy lights are very useful for that, while in Fenix lights everything is always glued tight on the inside

It would be nice to mod something in the future, so I’ll buy the s8.
Banggood had two kinds of led’s (these ), do you think it is worth taking the more expensive one?

I think I’ll buy this battarie and charger, will they do the job?:

- charger

This is better in my opinion. Keeppower is a trusted company with good protection circuit. They’re using Panasonic cell inside. The cheapest charger I trust is Nitecore i2. Don’t forget to use coupon “BLF” for 8% discounts.

Pretty much this

Okay, that will cost a bit more.
Great that I can use that coupon though!
Are there any other ways to get more discount?
Do I really get 10 dollars of when someone sends me a gift card?(click on “refer a friend”)

Too bad that nitecore charger has an vs wall-connectpoint-thing…

You could shop around for better prices. There are other batteries that are fine too, but stick with known brands like Samsung and Panasonic (theres others too). KP which is linked above I think use Panasonic cells.

The charger is about the cheapest, decent plug and play smart charger (opinions may vary). Again, you might find it cheaper at DX, FT or Wallbuys for example. Im not recommending any of them, nor am I suggesting you stay away from them, they are all much of a muchness from what I can tell. Good and bad stories abound for all of them as stores. There is an EU store too, but I think postage costs are pretty high so you would want to buy a fair bit to make it worth while. You will pay above the China store prices too.

It is sensible IMO that the energy source and charger are dearer than a budget flashlight. They are the dangerous bits. Plenty of people use unprotected cells sourced from second hand packs, but thats not for amateurs IMO. Spend a few extra bucks, and be safe®. If the flashlight has no protections built in like over discharge for example, then the battery should have it. KP is a decent Japanese cell battery, with a Japanese protection circuit.

No idea about the SPAM encouragement. I dont get into it.

FT has the charger, cheaper too, with EU plug http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10001637/1319800-nitecore-i2-lithium-li-ion-ni-mh-ni-cd-smart

Im fairly certain its just a figure 8 plug anyway. Youre bound to have one, at least your parents/grandparents will if youre too young.

Thank you for all the information!
I rather spend a littlebit more and get some quality stuf than cheap stuf that breaks easily.
Checking some other website’s with free global shipping sounds like a good plan too.

Edit: Luckely fasttech is even cheaper than banggood, they also ship free globaly. 8)

Welcome!
Anything in the convoy line is great quality for great budget price, I don’t have anything in the s range, but I have an M1 and a C8 which are great.
Not sure exactly which plug you mean with the charger, but get the I4, you can get it with a DC car charger as well, and I’m pretty sure you will not stop with 1 light if you spend any amount of time here…. Especially when you see something with serious output, like a modded small sun zyt-08 or a sky ray king….
Cheers
Anton

Thanks!
You’re right, this probably wont be my last flashlight.

Very good quality lights. http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-By-Batteries-cln-18650/s/9/Categories

I might buy the OnTheRoad B311 . It is really small and almost as bright as a convoy s8. Does anyone have any experience with this brand or flashlight?
