which JB weld are you using?

and why?

i did not use that before. but the deeper i go into modding i need some… (i think)
purpose will be glueing things together with good heat transfer.

so:

  • which JB weld do you prefer?
  • and why?
  • or found another product thats better?

I do use Arctic Silver Arctic Alumina , its reliable and relatively cheap(7-8euros in EU), plus i dont know of anything better
Sometimes i use liquid metal too- Coollab ofc

Read about it here:

Here.

Be careful using liquid metal, it is usually gallium, and it does not mix well with aluminum at all. (forms a brittle alloy that you can snap in half with your fingers) you are fine if the light is all copper, or maybe even brass, but never alluminum.

I’ve only used it the once - the ‘original’ flavor.

Why? Seems to be a proven product, used in a lot of mods around here.

Ditto, I can still solder parts embedded in it without it softening. I do use other grade thermal adhesives for some bonds and mostly use it for when it needs to be heat resistant and rigid.

mcpcb to sink, critical: AS-5 or AA.

mcpcb to sink, non critical: AS-5, AA, or Fujik(grease or glue, depending…).

potting, removable, non rigid: fujik.

potting, non removable, rigid: JB-Weld

strong, heat resistant, mechanical connections: JB-Weld.

jb kwik.
also makes a decent thermal adhesive.
i have driven older less efficient k2’s at over 2a with no problems in m@g mods.
and altilon 1x4 @ 1.5a on a good heatsink in a desklamp mod.
