Very bizarre movie, that’s for sure. I haven’t seen it in around 20 years but remembered it was waaaay out there. Definitely a different perspective on it this days compared to being in my late teens/early 20’s.
I have not, but will certainly look into it. Friday night is typically my wife mines “at home date night” where we try to watch something a bit different. Saturday night is more family friendly night with the kid. Thanks for the recommendation!
Seems to imply a sort of multiverse but where one guy “remembers” all the possibilities, anchored in part of all of them vs blithely carrying on in each one.
At this point multiverse is almost a dirty word, tbh I saw it more as the ability to see branching timelines but I guess the actual difference there is mostly semantic.
yea, you have to sort of expect that from Wes Anderson. Of course, at this point I’ll watch anything Scarlet Johansson is in, especially…well…'nuff said.
repeated exposition was a band-aid for a needlessly convoluted McGuffin heavy “plot”
Lots of nonsensical “and then this happened” moments
Weird tone
Stunts were good obviously, but much of the fighting was kind of boring
Ending Spoiler
It really feels like Ethan Hunt was meant to die in this movie but they chickened out at the last minute. Everything seemed to be leading up to it and while I don’t want the character dead, I think it would have felt right in this movie.
Well, there are still more good MI movies than bad ones, at least. I’d be fine if Tom stopped doing them, though. It’s pretty silly that a 62-year old isn’t getting his ass beaten by people in their 20s and 30s. Maybe he’d pass for 50-55 with all of the work he’s had done, but we’re splitting hairs here. Age is a major factor in physical performance, and it’s that kind of role.

This movie is excellent!
The acting is top-notch.
The music is inspiring.
This is probably the best vampire movie I have ever seen (though I don’t usually like vampire movies.)
The first half of the movie is practically all drama.
The second half is a mixture of drama and horror, with some action sequences thrown in for good measure.
By the way, I didn’t realize that the twin brothers in the movie are played by the same actor until after the movie ended.
This movie is kinda slow-paced, but it’s satisfying at the same time.
Different parts of the movie are in different aspect ratios, but I’m not sure why.
There are some sections of the movie that mix the present with the past and the future.
I thought that was pretty cool.
Overall, this is a groundbreaking movie for the horror genre.
Pretty much agree - my wife and I saw this, although I had an …er…“early release” that left something to be desired… I’d recommend something with subtitles.
I was going to post but try not to spoil the vampire bit. I had heard VERY good reviews of this when it was in the theater (“Something for everyone”, “a little religion but not too much”, “some horror, sex, violence”, etc). Then all of a sudden the twist kicked in and she got all excited “You didnt tell me it had vampires!”. Game over, she was hooked
Kinda like Dusk til Dawn meets Django…
I had an early release as well, but when I realized that the quality wasn’t up to par, I deleted it.
Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that the movie is about vampires because that kinda is a spoiler, but then I couldn’t say that it’s probably the best vampire movie I’ve ever seen.
The film is like a cream cake that looks amazing, smells divine, but the taste turns out to be not worth the calories.
Horrible green screens in sunrise shots.
Music is good, Ultra Panavision 70, costumes, make-up great. Someone had a vision but… script looks like created on the tram between transfers, editing is mess. Looks like done in software for putting together wedding videos.
This movie is okay.
I watched a dubbed version.
The voice acting is merely adequate.
The music is not very good.
The drama and comedy parts are pretty bad, except for the ending which I enjoyed.
The movie fails as a comedy–I didn’t laugh once.
The plot is silly and convoluted.
I had trouble following some of the plot, but that might just be me.
The action sequences with guns are fairly generic.
The action sequences without guns are excellent, and they make the movie watchable.
If only the rest of the movie were nearly as good as those superb action scenes, then maybe I could recommend this one.
“According to Jackie Chan’s autobiography, of all the movies he’s ever made, this is his favorite.”
In my opinion, Jackie Chan has plenty of better movies.
we went to see MI:TFR yesterday only because the tickets were $7 each,
and we could attend the matinee which had 23 people (including us) seated.
yes, i counted. it was worth $14. how theatres remain in business
is a mystery to us since no one there bought any drinks, etc.
that we could see. Budget Crowd.
