Been binging The Expanse. Up to Season 3 at the moment. For me, literally every single episode has been a banger. I do like sci-fi but there’s never been a sci-fi show that’s gripped me as tightly as this show.
No spoilers please.

I enjoyed the whole series. One of the few where I was counting the days for the release of the final season. So much so that I read all 9 of the novels in the series. If one is into reading, they are worth considering. It is nice that they did a reasonably good job of following the books. To bad they did not do another season or two.

Oh man, I just assumed there were more seasons coming.

Just six seasons. I am sure they could have easily made 9 seasons based on the scope of the books.
From Wikipedia:
“In November 2020, the series was renewed by Amazon for a sixth and final season, which premiered on December 10, 2021.”

I had seen “The Expanse” listed for a few years, but didn’t indulge it. I did watch the first episode and I didn’t find myself really entertained. So I left it alone. Circling back another year, I decided to give it a go again. This time I liked it and it got progressively better. Complicated! I’m in Season 2 right now. Glad to know that there’s a solid 6 seasons all together.

Anyone here a fan of Jason Isaacs?
He did a rather short murder-mystery detective series called Case Histories, just 2 seasons long. It was based on a series of novels and the last two episodes were an extension to the novels. Excellent acting. Compelling stories. Gorgeous cinematography. A majority of it is set in Edinburgh, and various surrounding towns and countryside. Makes you want to go visit Scotland.
I’m sad there wasn’t more. I think it had a potential for it.

I saw “Battle of the Baddest.”
That’s six heavyweight boxing matches from Saturday.
Every fight is entertaining (overall), but not every round is great.
The title fight, Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou is surprising.
Fury is the current heavyweight (or superheavyweight) champion of the world.
Ngannou is one of the best (or maybe the best) MMA fighter in the world.
This is Ngannou’s first boxing match!
Based on this one match, both Fury and Ngannou are incredibly strong and incredibly tough.
If you like heavyweight boxing, I suggest watching all six matches if you can.
If you care about boxing (or MMA fighting), you have to see the title fight, if possible.
I watched the six fights over about 24 hours, and that’s the most professional boxing that I’ve watched in that short of a time period.
I think I overdosed on boxing a little, but by the time I watch the next heavyweight fight, I’ll most likely be ready for more.

Started “Billions”, since I am a fan of Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis (still can’t get over how great is his American accent–he’s from England). Really saturated with complexities. Lots to pay attention to. I have to wonder if any of these characters are inspired by true-life ones. My sister and her husband have seen the whole series, which just had the finale (7th season) on October 29th 2023. They liked it a lot.

Finished the current season of Good Omens.
Not as good as the first season - at least to me.
Next season “The Second Coming”
Hope it picks up again.
All the Best,
Jeff

Good Omens Season 1 was a collaborative writing effort between Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Word is that Season 2 was 100% Gaiman and was written as a bridge to Season 3 which will have some of Pratchet’s writing in it again (written before his death). So there is some hope Season 3 might be better. Not to say that Gaiman is all bad or anything, but you’re bound to lose something when you lose a writer on a collaborative project.
Personally I liked Stardust but didn’t care for American Gods as much. (books)
Stardust the movie is distinct from the book and possibly better in some ways–I liked the ending more.
I have not sampled Pratchett’s Discworld book series yet but it is on my list.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I myself read the books first and then watched the show, the books are of course better but the show is very good. The last season felt really rushed, I fully agree that 1 or 2 more seasons would probably have allowed the authors to do a much better job.
Amos is for me the best character both in the books and in the show, but in the books he conveys a much better air of cool/noir than on TV.
BTW, anyone that liked the books should make sure to read the “intervening” ones too: they are very short (at most novella-sized), and add a lot of color to the main storyline: The Expanse Series by James S.A. Corey (I mean the ones with fractional numbers like “1.5”, “2.5”, “2.7”, etc).

I saw Ajagba vs. Goodall, which is a heavyweight boxing match from a week ago.
The fight was pretty good, especially the last two rounds.
What’s kinda interesting is that Ajagba’s previous match (that I did not see) only lasted one second.
His opponent must have been scared because he left the boxing ring and disqualified himself in the first second of Round 1.
I think the announcers said that was the quickest boxing match of all time–one second!
I wonder if Ajagba’s previous opponent got paid for that “fight.”

This week’s SNL is really good.
Timothee Chalamet hosted.
I didn’t care for the musical guest, but I laughed a lot at the comedy, and that’s what matters to me.

Amazing Stories - Thanksgiving (The Hole People).
1986 - David Carradine, Kyra Sedgwick
This is a warning of what can happen if you get too obsessed with flashlights.
Recommended especially for BLFers.

I stopped watching SNL something like 10 years ago. Before that it was watched as must-see-tv.
It got old and tired and to political for me.
Maybe it is time to check it out again one day soon.

The comedy is (sometimes) good, but if you never liked the politics of SNL, you won’t like it now.
I wish Mad TV was still on the air.
It was funny, and I don’t think it was political, though I could be wrong.

I’m with you about last weekend’s show.
I’m betting this is going to be a good year for the quality of SNL’s comedy.
Even if someone isn’t a fan of the political humor, you have to at least check out James Austin Johnson’s impersonation of Donald Trump…its incredible and hilarious!!!

In my opinion, three out of four episodes of this season have been excellent.
That’s a pretty good batting average (0.750) for those that understand a bit of baseball.

My last show was Blue Eye Samurai (TV Series 2023) - IMDb on Netflix.
It’s more western style animation than anime but it’s breathtakingly good.
Awesome story, amazing characters. Voice acting is top notch (George Takei!) and the animation and action is just plain out of this world.
For me, this is the new benchmark future shows will be measured at.
Highly recommended 10/10.

It’s still awful. Occasionally you get some funny bits. But they’re so few and far between these days. Even Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che has had some bombers (they used to be reliably funny every week). We record it and catch the cold-open plus Weekend Update, fast-forwarding through the rest. Only if the guest is appealing do we watch a few of the skits. Can’t relate at all to the musical artists these days. Pop-music taste has really gone downhill.
Background: I was old enough to watch the original SNL. And I’ve followed it through its ups and downs over the years. They’ve had some phenomenal peaks and some tragic lows. But the latest? It’s some of the worst skit bombs I can remember. SNL is at a new low, IMHO.
