I could buy R5 1A from FT and mount them on Noctigons myself.
Or I could buy S2 2B mounted on Noctigon from IOS.
Buying from IOS will give me less work, higher bin and slightly lower price. But is tint good enough? I dont have any of those emitters, and I know R5 1A from FT de-domes with acceptable tint. Normally id stay away from de-doming B and C tinted emitters. Any input (from people who have de-domed S2 2B from IOS)?
So lets say you need 12 of them for 12 different lights (might be the case for me). You would rather work more, pay more and get less output by going for the R5 1A?
When it comes to KD, my experience is that chance of getting the described tint and bin is about 50/50. I hate buying from them. If you, or anyone have to some degree verified that those are the real deal, then I might go for those.
you could try these in R5 –1A leddna.com - Informationen zum Thema leddna.
with the BLF15 code they come to $3.83.I’ve had good luck with the company as well. they shipped fast. I usually get my shipment in about a week and a half.
Ive got several of those R5 4B`s incoming for a project, but not something I would de-dome. Very good price on NW XP-G2s. Ordered 6 of them some time back.
On the cheap CW 1A emitters, I cant even see that bin is mentioned. Description says 403 lumen at 1,5A. Which translates to the lowest R3 bin.
I have some of the KD S2 1As but have only used one so far, in a Roche F6. The closest comparison I could do would be against a UF-T50 clone with a R5 2B (from IOS); both lights have the same BLF-17DD hardware & the same firmware. Currently charging a matched pair of VTC5s to feed them...
Well, it doesn't look great, they're nearly identical (within 0.2 lux) doing a ceiling bounce test. However that could be the different reflectors playing a part, 18mm OP vs. 23mm smooth. Would the relatively minor difference between R5 & S2 be greater than the difference between reflectors?
After reading some threads I am under the impression some dealers really want to "offer" the highest bin on paper, there have been some threads along the time showing lower values. 2B is excellent as it is (dome on), might get greenish when dedomed due to getting much warmer than 1x.
I would say the difference in reflectors could mess up the minor difference between the emitters. So there is no way to say anything for certain.
But, knowing KD`s history of purposely lying about emitters and not being bothered to tell the truth. Knowing that S2 should typically show higher. Knowing that the 1A might have a tendency to read higher than 2B. My conclusion based on the limited info would be that KD are doing what they do best when it comes to labeling emitters.
