I am wondering why some lights like the Nitecore EC4 uses two 18650 when it produces a max of 1000 lumens when there are other lights with the same output that only use one battery?
Is this more a matter of run time?
I am pondering a purchase of such a light and will probably buy one regardless of the answer.
It depends
When the cells are parallel you get longer runtimes
When the cells are in series more power for the LEDs so different LEDs can be used (like the XHP series)
Appears that the EC4 does it to get longer regulated run times. Voltage is needed to get 1000 lumens. 1 or 2 parallel cells can only maintain regulated voltage for a short time. 2S cells doubles the voltage. So you get a good amount of voltage overhead.
