I got that question from a battery shop and as usual I say yes. After some discussion about what batteries to review and sending my address, there was a couple of hours without emails.
Then I got one about how they planned to send the invoice and how to pay for the batteries. :person_facepalming:
I am fairly low on batteries to review, but that is not they way to get me to review batteries!
They tried to drop a quick on on you with a switcharoo. What happens to the batteries you’ve previously reviewed? You must have hundreds if not thousands by now?
You do not need to be embarrased It was a Chinese shop.
I would like to get batteries from some Chinese shops (there is, of course, a higher risk that they the sold batteries are not the same as the ones they send for review).
And I also had to do an email more explaining it a bit more detailed.
I more see it as somebody that do not know how this kind of things works. I doubt it is the owner I was writing with, more likely some sort of marketing manager and it may well be a young person on his first job.
What kind of a company can’t afford to send $10 worth of batteries to the most well-known Li-ion battery reviewer on the internet?! I already know what the results from the test were gonna be…
Definitely not. Xtar may not send batteries for review (They have recently), they have never asked for money.
I will not say who it was, as long as there is a possible excuse that they guy I was talking with was naive.
I believe the test would have shown good batteries, as I wrote above I believe the problem is a guy not knowing how the world works (or maybe not confirming his decision with his boss).
But even if that is the case, it is a big fail. Asking people to promote their store and their product and expect people to pay for it (Reviews of good batteries is promotion when the store/etc. is mentioned, I am aware of that).
After my first few posts on BLF with some light reviews,
I was contacted by a manufacturer about reviewing their stuff.
They said they liked my style. (it’s true, I am clearly too cool fro my own good)
I said I was flattered, but I would have to publish the good along with the bad of anything I reviewed.
Asked how to go about the next step.
And… Silence.
Oh well, I (almost) have enough stuff to play with anyway.
All the Best,
Jeff
PS. I always check HKJs reviews first for battery and charger info.
Best on the Web.
Anyway, knives is something I stay far away from, a lot of them are illegal around here. If you order one on ebay you risk getting a criminal record (The custom office reports it to the police).
