I figured out this is old news, but I didnt know it until a few minutes ago!
WIndows 8 PRO can be downloaded for just $39.99,
and I`m thinking of jumping on it, if it allows me to run my current (Japanese) Windows 7, next to my upgraded (English) Windows 8!?
Do you know if that is possible?
I would prefer the official DVD/CD, but would prefer to save the extra $20-30.
ps… what I really like about Windows 8, is that you can have different display languages with different user accounts on 1 pc…
I`ve been using Japanese OS for a while now, but an English interface would make my life much easier… troubleshooting etc…
I know that DUAL boot is possible… but that would be with a New install, not with an upgrade.
So if someone knows how to do it, please let me know… I would just pay 39.99 for the download, but Im pretty sure it will overwrite my Win7.
I would prefer a Win 7 and 8 Dual boot, and want it the legal way, no copies…
I would also pay the full 39.99 and not the 14.99, because I would be lying.
With the windows OS’s, if you are installing a newer OS on a computer with an existing older windows OS it will prompt you to offer the dual boot option. It is only when installing older on newer that Windows makes it difficult.
I tried to like the Windows 8 but it is not for me on my desktop. Looks like it would be great on a tablet or a all-in-one touch screen PC. Mind you, I didn’t have the classic shell.
Win7 64 ultimate will stay a while longer on my box.
I would really like an “upgrade” to be able to use and English OS, instead of the JP OS I`m using now…
It might especially be good for WinXP machines. I think its a good price.
I didnt know that about the dual boot option built-in the setup.

The OP seems to have good reasons to upgrade to Windows 8, but for everyone else reading this, do not upgrade to Windows 8!
The Windows 8 (W8) upgrade has been a major frustration on my new laptop. My old laptop crashed a month before W8 came out so I figured it was so new it would work fine with the upgrade. After a few days, the system crashed and I had to reload it. I lost nearly a full day reloading programs.
Running W8 on a non-touchscreen device is a major hassle. Even simple things like pulling up the charms menu requires that the mouse be in just exactly the right spot. Frequent commands are buried under many mouse clicks. Simple actions that used to take 4 movements now take 7 or 8.
And… a list of your programs doesn’t exist! You have to remember the names and type them in to call them up! You can’t imagine how irritating it is to have to stop and think, “What was the name of that little program I was using to do _?” If you’re going to run nothing but apps AND you have a new touchscreen computer, then maybe W8 is okay, but it is a major step backwards for the rest of us.
After a week of relearning, I decided that I would not be held prisoner by an operating system.
I set up my system to dual boot into Ubuntu 12.10, a Linux OS. Ubuntu is a far superior OS, in my opinion… and it is free.
I havent tried Win8 and dont see reason why would I want to, I dont have touchscreen devices, other than older tablet that has Android on it.
So far Ive seen mixed reviews regarding Win8, but one thing is certain - if youre happy with Windows 7 and dont own touchscreen device, then there is no big reason to migrate to Windows 8 en masse.
Im pretty sure that my next tablet might come with Win8 or Win8RT(perhaps Win9 or whatever will be in the market), because I want it to be as similar and compatible with my full fledget PC/laptop as possible.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale price! If I get a touchscreen monitor for my new desktop then I’ll definitely have to consider this.
I’ve been running Windows 8 Release Preview for several months and agree that it’s really only suitable for touchscreen applications. Then again, that’s what Microsoft designed it around. It’s not like Windows 7 has to be thrown away. They took a gamble and rolled the dice since that’s the way computing is trending. It’s biggest strength is that it already creates a smooth transition between tablets and PC’s. That’s huge! Obviously it will annoy the traditional computer user in the early stages but you gotta make the move eventually otherwise the competition will. Microsoft has the most critics and they’re almost always in a lose-lose position.
“A must have”, I’d say. Have played a bit with 8, and man, they had to make 2 versions: one for touch devices and the other one for desktops, with start button! :bigsmile: There are plenty of Start alike programs, free and shareware. Haven’t tried any, but will install Start8 first for sure.
You could just download a windows 8 AIO & the activator. Install it like usual, takes only 10-20 mintues to fully install. Install classic shell and activate the crack. Free OS, but then again illegal activies aren’t condone here so. PM if u want help. With Andriod OS around the corner and dual booting Hackintosh, linutz got some competition.
You’re really suggesting that someone who wants to use Windows 8 should go the illegal route rather than giving Microsoft 40 measly bucks? I know this is Budget Light Forum, but geez… If I want a free OS, I’ll use a free OS (Linux, Open Solaris, etc)…
