I have selected five lights for the weather event at hand (we are expected to be getting to 7 F and 2-4 inches of ice and snow, which for the South, is a big deal!) But this is hitting most of the nation…what are you doing to prepare? What lights have you reached for? I have the Lumintop TD16 with XP-L HI, the March C8 SST-40, and an Eagtac (XHP-35 HD) in my Swiss backpack. I am not far from GW Bush Airport and we are preparing for days of being stuck.

We’re only looking at a possible 6”. As long as it isn’t wet and stays below a foot, we’re good. My resident herd of deer look hungry though. Oh yeah, all my lights are ready to go.
I believe you should be ready all the time not just the winter.
Not expecting a ton here, but all the ol’ 4x18650 lights are good to go. I’ve got a Supfire M6 with 3x XHP50.2 3V that’ll go forever on low modes, a blf Q8, and of course an LT1.
We’ve had 8 inches of snow here in Scotland since 5 days ago (the thaw is just starting today).
Most useful lights: two BLF LT1s when the power went out for 40 minutes on Friday evening, one for the living room and one for the toilet. Also a BLF-348 and a Nitecore MT06MD for finding stuff.
Plenty of other lights around here, but they’d only have come into play if I’d needed to go outside for some reason.
I was more nervous about heat, since this is an all-electric household, but the power cut fortunately wasn’t long enough for that to become an issue.
We are heading for near all time record lows and the Snow-pocalypse is already well under way here.
I’ve got 21 cells in chargers ramping up from storage voltages. UPSs topped up and the Down sleeping bags are on standby.
Had to put a small heater in the garage to keep the liquids from freezing.

I’d worry more about heating your house than fussing over flashlights.
True,emergency preparedness is year round , not only in the winter.
7 degrees! Hopefully by next week we will get that warm again. Last night, walking the pooch, my TH20 was working just fine clipped to my coat in –20 or so wind chill. Currently –8 with –18F windchill and that will probably be as warm as it gets today. If I leave my SC31 Pro clipped in my coat pocket it is fun to do a temp check when I get in the house. Even in the coat pocket doesn’t take too long to get below 0 C and Andruil is not set up to blink that out 
Yes, but in this case, it’s going to be 15ºF tonight, and 8ºF Monday night in Houston. They can deal with no AC in summertime if the power goes out, but freezing is another story. Especially when they aren’t used to cold temps like that. Natural gas furnace isn’t going to work unless you have electricity to start it and run the furnace fans.
I have a 7000w gen set for here in Michigan in the rare case we lose power. We don’t get a break from the cold until spring… lol
That’s my only worry , your right. Generator and adequate electric heaters so no freezing Pipes. And a sp40 head lamp that’ll run months on my 18650 supply. And a d4sv2 for the bathroom with its magnet stuck to the washing machine so I doesn’t go anywhere, and filling up 2 x 35 gallon garbage cans (clean, new) with water for the toilets. I’ll be ready enough if anything comes this way.
If you’re near the airport, I would think you have city water pressure for flushing. Tuesday you’ll be back above freezing temps anyway. Your pipes aren’t going to freeze over one night. But you might

Went to Grad School in Norther Illinois. I remember walking to class in colder than that.
Camped in tents in Antarctica where the high was not even close to this.
Always loved the cold and snow.
But after so long in heart of Texas, the blood thins and the bones chill.
Gotta have lots of lights, so we can freeze to death, but not in the dark!

Lanterns….Lanterns & blankets, up here in north central MT we are finally looking at temps above 0 F tomorrow, was –30(actual) earlier in the week.
Bundle up, stay home, this too shall pass.
We are 28 here. Just left my cousin’s house. Secured the plants outside. Hands numb. Streets already somewhat slick. Snow starting to fall, plus rain, sleet, and patches of ice causing fender-benders. I am secured in my hotel where I work for the next two days.
Best to just be prepared all the time.
Had a blackout in December, high winds knocked over a tree right across powerlines, ConEd did a kick-ass job working around the clock to get power back on in 20hrs, restringing all the lines the full length of the block.
Gas was fine, so had hot water but no house-heat. Could cook, too.
Used just the lights on my table, didn’t have to tap into any other cells or even my multicell lights (Q8s, DC7, EC4GT, nuttin’). Zanflare lantern gave nice WW light on one cell. Powerbank topped off both phones and the 14500 in my ’micro.
Only screwup I made was forgetting my Rockpals(??) doodad to supply 120V. Dead, so couldn’t grind my coffeebeans. Now am making sure to check the doodad, and just got a handcrank grinder (courtesy of vipon), Just In Case.
Plenty of other cells of all types, pretty much topped off by default after doing capacity tests on all new cells. Assloads of powerbanks and hand-warmers that double as powerbanks (doubt I’d use them that way, though), even a bunch of alkaleaks as a last resort.
So I don’t think this about picking a list of what lights to have at the ready. Just be ready.
