Wolfgirl Reviews: Reviewing activity paused due to urgent relocation.

An odd comparison to make as they fulfill very different roles - D3AA is a handy 14500 EDC light while the T9R is 21700 spotlight.

3 Thanks

My main complaint when testing a D3AA was how sharp every single edge on it feels. Even most Convoy/Sofirn I own have most prominent edges deburred, the D3AA just feels sharp. Dunno. For me personally most hanks are not interesting because I try to have USB-C on every light that is not exclusively for use around the house where a charger is always nearby.

Yeah, this is also my main complaint with the D3AA. In my red D3AA (ordered right away at launch) the edges on the head were really sharp. Not as sharp like a knife, but at least very uncomfortable to use.
I can imagine that the edges would be less sharp after some use with keys in pockets or something like that, but I don’t know why the edges are there.

Agreed. But I was talking about common attributes of both lights, that do not depend on them being EDC or a spotlight (except perhaps the reflector on the T9R vs the TIR on the D3AA, but my backup EDC light – an FC13 – also has a reflector, so…)

Your D3AA is in fact the one I based this opinion on

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Can’t argue that perception, despite not really noticing it myself in use.

While the D3AA has some hard angle edges - to the point the ano disappeared immediately on mine around the switch protrusion and some other spots - I wouldn’t call any of those features burrs.

A reasonable preference. Although I find myself in proximity to the house and dedicated chargers that the added bulk/cost/liability of inbuilt charging isn’t worth it to me.

There’s an unavoidable formfactor distinction in that the D3AA is designed to be extremely compact, thus must have a protruding switch.

FFLs are generally prettier - Emisar/Noctigon have a utilitarian design and remain consistent to the design language that seems to go back to at least the original D4/D1/D1S.

That’s an 18650 formfactor with more volume to work with than a 14500; also a single emitter allows immensely more relative area for collimation than multiple emitters in the same volume.

Getting the sense you prefer reflectors over TIRs.

Took a small file to a D3AA and rounded off the sharp edges since it had already lost the anodization in those areas- Does’nt look the best but its a tool for me and not a toy!

I know :stuck_out_tongue:

The corners of the switch section I understand, but the knurling? :astonished:

Different look

With no intention of commenting on politics: a least the part of @wolfgirl42’s predictions that more directly affect us light enthusiasts have just literally become true: The USPS just suspended the acceptance of packages from China and Hong Kong until further notice. - #3 by dmenezes

Pretty obvious it was bound to happen, but sad and disappointed to see it happening anyway :expressionless:

Whatever one’s opinions of ‘The Donald’, you can’t argue that life with him as president is dull. Oh noo noo noo, it’s a rollercoaster of a ride, yeeeeee.

I hope your “relocation” goes well. I also hope your parter is also alright, as you mentioned them in the post. I guess your not moving to the uk as even the left there is anti-trans(not that the us “left” is any better). Hope you stay safe. I feel like there will be a large influx of people here in the eu. Its very unfortunate that even here these rhetoric are bubbling up.
