Would this work, nichia219 in a Z8??

I want to have a go at modding my Trustfire Z8. As I’m new to this I thought keep it simple. So can I simply replace the star with one that has a Nichia 219 on it or maybe an XP-E2, but retain the stock driver?

Using my DMM I’m getting 1.82 at the tail cap on the Z8. Is this too much for these other LED’s. Using the same 14500 I get 1.71 tail cap on an SK68 which would seem to be a similar ballpark.

Thanks.

I am not an expert in drivers, but I guess because the Z8 does not have a linear driver (well, it does not look like one to me) and the 219 has a higher Vf than the stock XM-L, the current will be a bit lower than the 1.82A going through the XM-L, and could just be perfect for the 219, around 1.5A. (or am I talking nonsenense here?).

It will also depend on the beam quality using an XM-L reflector with the much smaller Nichia.

Z8 is a zoomy so no reflector.

Oh. Well in that case…go for it.
