Wrist watches. Post pics, if you EDC one!

I EDC my 1989 Soviet Vostok Amphibia. It took me ages to find one in good shape with the black original bezel (and no, it’s not in Bakelite as everyone says, just black common plastic) at the right price.
I have and have had other watches, but this is always at my wrist. I like winding it every morning, I am mesmerized, every time I count the strokes, every morning at 8 o’clock, and always, always, always 24. This means that when I go to bed, if I am in doubt I wind it 8 strokes for a charge of 8 hours more, so that it wouldn’t stop at 3 am.

From time to time, when wearing a shirt or going somewhere, I wear my late dad’s Citizen Eco Drive Perpetual Calendar. He bought it in 1997 when he retired, and for a watch so old having the time and the date always right it’s simply unbelievable. Nowadays these Citizens are radio connected, but back then everything was in the watch, that was a pain to set up (for my dad it was, I found it more difficult than usual, but doable). It changes the date right, meaning that the 1st of December you won’t see 31, but 1, and on a leap year, the 1st of March will be marked 1 and not 30, or not 29 if it’s not a leap year

I would love to get an Eco Drive to EDC, but they are all unreasonably big to me. I recently bought one I liked, it was as big as a frying pan and after 3 months I sold it as the Vostok was always at my wrist anyway

The bm8180 is on the smaller side, basic fieldish watch, with day date and lumed numbers. 37mm, 18mm lug width, 10mm thick. Surprsingly blingy too

This, right?
I would love something less basic, and of about 40/41mm diameter (can go up, it depends on the watch, really… my Casio MRW200H is 43 and looks as big as the Vostok, which is 40), but mainly in the combination super titanium-sapphire, and radio controlled.

I am checking constantly classifieds in my area, as I tend to prefer older designs. AS2031-57E, which is still current, by the way, is what I’ve been eyeing lately. I’ve seen it in a shop window, and looked smaller than the rest

Thats the one. How does 43mm sound? TsukiYomi AT, super Ti, sapphire, Atomic radio, moon phase, and EU has an awesome dark purple/metallic dark gray black version

I have the white/light grey version, and would much rather have gotten the dark purple version instead. Although, i did get it for under 500 at the time, so maybe I shouldn’t complain…

Wow, that’s nice! Unfortunately a bit too expensive, that’s why I am looking at classifieds, where my bucks have more bang.
This is still a new release, so it will cost quite a lot for a while.

In the meantime, I just swap straps and bracelets to my Vostok—it seems to do the trick and calm my itches :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I haven’t visited watchuseek in a while, but maybe post a Want To Buy or Looking for x over there, someone might be willing to let go of one for less.

Thanks, I will, I haven’t been there in a while either!

I have a few Citizens that I used to wear a lot, although recently I’ve been trying to get into automatic watches in some other brands. One Citizen is a digital from the early 80’s my mother bought me for swimming when I was a kid (I got tired of the Casios but that was before the G-Shocks came out). I wore it for years, then my father wore it for a few decades, and recently I started wearing it again.

The other Citizens are Eco-Drive that I bought between the mid 90’s and early 2000’s. They were smaller back then and fit my wrist well. The oldest ECO-drive (blue one) stopped working two years ago and I took it to a trusted jeweler who sent it in to get fixed. He said it just needed a cleaning… although I wonder if they replaced the capacitor. It works well again.

Right now my tool watches don’t involve swimming so they battle between a trio of Timex Ironmans (watches I don’t care about getting destroyed) and two Casio Pro treks.

Right now the 42mm Citizen Attesa has caught my eye, but I’m not as interested in modern designs as I was when I was younger. So I’ll probably pass it up and save up for a more traditional automatic watch:

Yowsa, nice.

With that strapped on my wrist, I would stay inside “From Dusk Till Dawn”.

Sadly the Vostok started giving signals that is time for a service.
As I struggle to find a watch maker who could put their hands on any of my watches, I decided I will try to service it myself, there are plenty of tutorial videos for this movement on youtube!

So, I needed a new EDC watch, and I went with the retro-eighties look buying this on the Casio Store on Aliexpress, it cost 25€ + 4€ for the leather strap, both hugely discounted with the coins.!($30+$5, in euro it sounds less :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)
It’s the model with the bracelet, but as you can see the difference in finishing and colour between the stainless steel of the bracelet, and the silver painted plastic (in Casio words “resin”), I changed it right away.

After getting my Royale I started loooking into this line of G-Shocks! Is this the expensive 5000? Really cool!
