I want a well made SK98. I ordered two and they have stupid memory issues and horrible tint and a hallow pill.
Thanks in advance.
There is almost no possibilty to find one.
But for 5$ light its an ok host.
Much easier to swap the emitter with one you like. And then mod the driver to the other solder point and get a fantastic light.
Try a Nichia 219b if you dont want the driver mod, or the 219c if you plan to do the mod.
Good luck.
I’ve used noctigon soldered to old real copper pennies to full the pill of the sk98. Actually works well. Pennies are a perfect fit.
I bought that torch for a friend months ago. Pill is sort of holey, but the thermal management is actually quite good because the aluminium donut under the star is fat. It pulled a bit more than 2 tailcap amps on an NCR18650B at nearly 4 volts over 2+ meters of multimeter leads, if I do remember correctly. It just got cozy warm after being powered up for a good while on high over a glass table; I even took some IR measurements through the lens to make sure the led's heath path was good.
If I'm not mistaken, that unused round pad besides the multichannel MOSFET may be used to go direct drive. And put thermal paste under the genuine cool white XM-L2 in any case.
Cheers ^:)
P.S.: don't forget to use "BLF" coupon. :THUMBS-UP:

I’ve got a nicely-modded SK98 of my own, and it’s a great light. My personal preference is for a XP-G2 emitter (I have an old-gen XP-G2, 1A tint bin) with this this driver from Kaidomain:

It is a 20mm direct-fit drop-in replacement, 3A, User-Selectable Mode Groups (So no blinkies if you prefer) and is a good match for this light.
