So since i am in a position where i have to preserve my finances, downsize to prepare to sell the house and move to a different province, i been going through some of my flashlights to possibly sell.
I have a ton of smaller pocket lights listed on a local buy & sell site, but may have some larger more prized ones from my collection for sale.
Was just curious if anyone is interested in any of my other big lights, and even thought about letting go my mint condition Tom-E modded BTU Shocker, (his Super Shocker variant) I haven’t set a price for this one yet, and have not confirmed if i will even sell this beauty, as these BTU Shocker lights were a legend in the multi-LED thrower class especially the TomE “Super Shocker” modded version like this.
but if the offer is right i may let it go, or i may just keep it in my special collection and sell off other lights that don’t have as much history behind them.
for other lights i thought about selling my 4-LED Fenix TK75VN, a modded HaikeLite MT01 MTG2 5000K , and a couple lightly modded Defiant DST’s i have.
I sold many others already locally, but will offer the better ones here later.
“DBSAR” I hope I’m not intruding your privacy, but, Please reconsider not selling that one. If I may share an unpleasant experience. About 9 yrs ago a 1994 Camaro Z28 came to my door with a blown engine.
I pulled the engine, sent it to Grooms in Tenn. for a complete rebuild. Replaced countless items. About 6K later it was done. 1 yr later and only 14K miles, I sold it for less than I had in it, for extra $ to move to Oregon. Both decisions were mistakes.
Sometimes we make mistakes that cannot be corrected. Just make sure to consider all options and that way you will have less regrets.
I agree, I will definitely never give this light away for cheap, as its a legend of its time and one of the greats in multi-LED throwers that responded to mods quite well, especially when TomE worked his magic on it. Even now its still among my top throwers, and just may change my mind on selling it, and sell some others i have instead.
IMO, most of the used lights for sale on this forum aren’t even worth the price of shipping… but this one caught my attention. I too, hope you wont sell your Shocker. TomE painstakingly modded his later editions of these lights with a lot of pride, tech and care. As a robust, functional, well constructed host, the Shocker blows away most of today’s bling lights… but Im sure you already know that. Not to mention that these gems have now become exceedingly rare. Of all the flashlights I own, my Shockers would be among the very last I would ever part with. Plus, there’s just too much potential that easily lends itself towards future builds. Then there’s the inherent long-burn turbo mode before it becomes heat saturated.
Your title also mentions, “many other lights”. I hope everything is well in your world and you’ll continue to enjoy the madness.

The last time I saw any Tom E. modded Shockers for sale was 2016 selling for $125 and $135, and one in 2015 and then some back in 2014,
I have been hunting for this light for a long time and so I tried to figure an inflation but more so the sentimental value and the special man that did the work.
I can’t price something like this really, this has to be one of the hardest lights to just throw a number at, just not something that’s easy to do, this is historical.

If that time comes maybe you can then tell me a bit more about the light, but honestly as much as I want one of these lights if I may give my personal thoughts I’d say to you my friend, Don’t sell it, but if you must please sell it to me,

Will consider it. I have had this monster light for years since the TomE modified version BTU was at hit here for its ability, and has been, & still is among my top favorite big throwers i have. This light out performs & out throws the beastly Olight SR90 i had, and half the size of an SR90.
I did have the TK70 once, but sold the light to a local friend a year ago. (but never had the extension tube to sell)
I thought about swapping out the dedomed XML2’s it has now for three 5000K XP-L HI Leds to see if i can mod it for even more throw, but not sure of they could handle the higher current from Tom’s mods. I wonder if Tom had tried the newer XP-L HI emitters in a Shocker yet?
Since your the first to post interest if i do, you get the first chance. It will depend on how my financial stability goes over the next couple months that will determine if i get financially stuck to the point that i will have to sell it ( and other lights)
No, I dont think any XPL HI’s ever made it into a Shocker. But thats a great idea, especially if you prefer 5K. It would be an easy/inexpensive mod and only add to its value. Beyond centering the emitters, you might avoid having to refocus the reflector (which was something that drove TomE nuts while painstakingly perfecting this light). High current might spell an early death, so just remove a spring bypass and use higher resistance cells before measuring current. Before final assembly, I focused each reflector with its emitter and powered them independently until they were each optimized.
Its a departure, but if you have one, the original linear driver was very efficient and did an excellent job of keeping the light in regulation with (I think a 90 second gradual step-down from turbo) and on the cusp of overheating the light until cell depletion. So full turbo continuous burns were doable, as long as the light was carried outside to exchange heat with some air movement. Thats a trick most of today’s power lights cant pull off at any price. I hope you can keep your awesome BTU and enjoy the hell out of it. Some things are easily replaced in this world. But a few are not and later regretted after they are gone. Just my .02 cents.

I will try to compile a list of lights i have that i may sell, including lanterns. (most lanterns i have are modded in some way or another by yours truly.
Some good points on that. I agree the BTU Shocker has a ton of thermal heat sinking for its LEDs, which made it an awesome host for modding to extremes.
I have a few small & large lanterns for sale, but i am definitely keeping the V1 & V2 prorotype BLF lanterns as i use them on nearly every outdoor wilderness trip & power outage.
Since the BTU Super Shocker was also one of my dream lights, I ran the BTU stock for a long time before fully upgrading the light recently.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
- 3 x Luminus SST-40 Sliced on 20mm DTP Copper
- MTN-22DD driver
- 20awg wires everywhere
- Spring bypasses on all springs
- Solder wick bypasses on battery carrier
- Drilled the bottom end of the reflector to accommodate bigger wires
- Sanded LED shelf
- Arctic Silver 5
Mods still to do:
- Lighted tailpiece by Lexel
Additional copper disc underneath LED shelf
When I show people my new BLF GT70, I have to exclude the BTU SS from the collection, as it is not far off the performance of the BLF GT70
