WURKKO HD03 new upgrade help

Hello BLFers,

These days I’m considering upgrade HD03 and have identified three potential points. But modification budget only for one or two. I hope to talk with community.

6 Thanks

What form factors of replaceable batteries are planned?

1 Thank

In order to provide you with worthy upgrades, it would be helpful to know what you believe the issue is with each of these 3 points.

2 Thanks

Replaceable Battery would be the most important feature upgrade for me.

I think a Replaceable Battery could also help more people to be interested in buying the HD03.

Especially if it could use a commonly available battery such as AAA or 10440. But I dont know if there is room for that.

Replaceable battery, replaceable battery, replaceable battery!
Neutral white throw or warm white throw emitter.

5 Thanks

I use this primarily for the RGB modes, as a safety blinker/locator for letting my dog go off-leash - the clip is excellent and never falls off. I suspect this type of thing, and the flood mode are the main use cases.

I’d suggest to make it pure flood with less emitters, 18350 battery, and don’t worry about the switch.

Upgrades/changes?

Battery capacity increase to 700 mAh
Ditch the RGB and go with ted light only
Make the spotlight TIR plain instead of the weird bicycle projector pattern (more beam distance)
Improve the switch. Make it larger and a bit stiffer

Otherwise I like the HD03!

3 Thanks

I agree on all points. Plus one more: Make the surfaces more grippy. It is way too slippery as it is. I had to apply grip tape to make it work.

• Replace the RGB with 660nm red light and make sure it has a few brightness levels.
• Use a normal spot beam TIR lens

4 Thanks

Considering the need to upgrade within the existing structure, its dimensions will not change significantly. Therefore, it will not be larger than AA size at most.
Perhaps 14500, tiny button cell. Also we could add an external battery compartment.

Here’s my 5 cents:

Replaceable cell: not worth the hassle, lots of work only to end with a marginally better but way more expensive product. Smaller cylindrical batteries can’t compete with pouch cells. More moving parts, more gaskets, total waterproofing mayhem.

Optics change: flat lens instead of the stripped design for the main LED, light can get farther with this change. Flood LEDs are fine, no changes needed.

Switch: a slightly larger switch would be welcome.

1 Thank

You so kindly my man.
For beam change, the current spot beam more like a toy. We hope to enhance its practicality by make the spotlight true throw. Or more useful light modes.

For switch change, perhaps called it UI upgrade. We’re not certain whether the switches and UI of HD03 align with regular users’ habits. Therefore, we’ll continue constant communication on community to ensure the new model align with your ideas.

For replace battery, Starting with HD01 released, the most common comment I’ve seen is: Why not replaceable battery? However, the current size simply cannot accommodate a lithium battery. There are currently two options: one is to alter its dimensions and create an entirely new flashlight.

1 Thank

Ja. It’s indeed the popular option earlier I’ve seen receive the most reply. Given the current size, replaceable battery means brand new structure design. Or add an external battery compartment

Got it dude. The replaceable battery is super important for us. BTW, I prefer the neutral white throw in HD03 ; )

3 Thanks

Oh dang! You suggestion is extremely valuable. Absolutely positive optimization idea. Abandon complex features and focus solely on refining the design of the safety blinker/locator. I like it. Thanks for your suggestion my man.

Well, it’s definitely let you like HD03 more.
I also agree TIR plain with more beam distance. Let me try it again.

1 Thank

Cool dude! Too slippery surfaces is bad for use. We should make it grippy.

1 Thank

Got it! I’m also dissatisfied the current spot beam.

2 Thanks

Dang! You comment definitely valuable 100 cents.
You calmly analyze the pros and cons of smaller cylindrical batteries versus pouch batteries. Whatever flat TIR or slightly larger switch, all focusing on HD03 friendly-use. Let me feedback to WURKKOS factory right now ; )

2 Thanks

For me, it’s important that any flashlight that I have is repairable and upgradable, so access to all the innards of a light is important.
I would love to change the LED on my HD03. So for me, make the bezel screwable, give it some grip so people can actually undo the bezel and for all your flashlights: Stop using glue!

I personally would exchange the RGB for a 2000K-5500K CCT floodlight option anytime.
