Wurkkos WK04 review (compact, walking+camping+red light)

There is a new addition to the range of funny lamp trifles from Wurkkos. WK04 can work like a regular flashlight, illuminating the road under your feet. And it also has a built-in diffuser, with types of flashlights working in camping light mode.

Package and appearance
The same orange and white cardboard packaging. Now the Wurkkos have come in decent packages, but for some reason they decided that the WK04 could happen without it.

In addition to the flashlight itself, the kit includes: manual, lanyard, charging cable and clip.

The cable, by the way, is soft and thick, very decent to the touch. Manual in English and Chinese. Short, but because of the simplicity of the flashlight perceiving. Yes, what really … I figured out the UI without even looking at the manual.

And here is the flashlight itself. The design here is the simplest, but on the hand the flashlight does not feel like some kind of frivolous craft, like its distant relative Sofirn SC02 (it is next to it in the photo below). This is a solidly built metal cylinder with a matte black anodized finish.

The clip, by the way, is very tight. She still does not scratch the body during rotation, but she categorically does not want to get off with it.

Otherwise, this is a fairly compact and well-fed lightweight cylinder.

70*22mm and weight 35g - here the lights are quite commensurate with another Wurkkos compact, the amazing Wurkkos TS10

Wurkkos, by the way, also has a red and gray version. I’m not sure that it will be possible to buy them just like that (at least the gray one - the red one is on the wurkkos official website), but it’s worth showing.

The flashlight is charged via the type-C connector. The cover is thick, securely closes the charging connector.

It takes an hour to fully charge Wurkkos WK04. According to the tester, 1.7 watt * h get inside. In the materials and on the Ali page, incorrect data in the form of 300 mAh may be declared. In fact, according to the manufacturer, the battery is 440 mAh, the same in Sofirn SC02.

There is a button next to it. As usual, it has a red-green backlight for the charging process. The button stroke is deep, tight, with a pronounced thin sound. The cover of the charging connector protrudes from the case, and the button, on the contrary, is flush. And due to the fact that I constantly confuse them, I click on the cover of the charging connector.

green: 70-100%
red: 30-70%
flashing red: below 30% time to charge

And, as you can already see, at one end there is a TIR lens, behind which some unknown search LED is hidden. However, good in terms of light and CRI, you can see below.
Actually, exactly the same lens is installed above and mentioned Sofirn SC02.

On the opposite side there is a built-in diffuser for camping light mode

UI

  • 1 click from OFF - check battery level
  • 2 times from OFF - blocking
  • Long-term use - OFF / ON
  • 1 click from ON - cycle through modes low medium high
  • 2 times from ON - switching between normal-camping-red light (in the red range, 1 click switches between the air and the “beacon”)

When switching between walking and camping modes, the flashlight will start to work at the same level as you switch. I mean from Camping mid you switch to Mid walking light.

There is a mode memory.

How the Wurkkos WK04 illuminates.

As expected - HI CRI. Not ideal to fall on the reference curve, according to Opple’s assessment. But on the eyes everything is normal, the color temperature is OK. tint is even nicer than that of SC02. That one, however, is somewhat brighter.

As for the tint, it is worth clarifying that some variety of LEDs in the batch can simply play a role here. I specifically checked with Sofirn and they confirmed to me that the optics and LEDs in the SC02 and WK04 are the same.

A minute of maximum brightness of 260 lumens is enough to look around while walking. Not far, of course.

If necessary, the maximum brightness can be restarted. Then the brightness drops somewhere to 110-120lum … well, the same MID mode and it lasts quite well at this brightness for another 50 minutes. I think that this is quite enough for an evening walk. And more than enough if you decide to keep the Wurkkos WK04 instead of the key, although I find this decision strange.

Otherwise, the range at the maximum is enough to look around at a typical distance for a normal walk. The light is pleasant. At medium brightness, enough to see in advance a puddle or some other rubbish on the road.

As for the camping light, it’s not bad. The average mode is quite enough to give sufficient light for evening gatherings. The question is that an hour and a half is frankly not serious either for camping, or for tourism, or for gatherings. Reserve and relatively short light, and only

Even the minimum 20lum will last 4 hours and it is unlikely that this will be enough for you.

Here in the photo appears the famous compact camping lamp Mingray (review). And it is just much more interesting as an inexpensive source of camping light. Yes, it totally sucks ciomparing to WK04 in terms of the quality of light: there are pulsations here, and it is much colder. But in terms of the runtime, there are no questions at all - he has a 1000mah battery. And for the price of Wurkkos WK04, you can buy 4 of these camping lanterns. I think that a pair of these lights at minimum brightness will be comparable to the average brightness of WK04 /

Let me remind you that there is still a red light

Overall impressions

Wurkkos WK04 is an unusual EDC flashlight that has both advantages and disadvantages. I’ll try to list them.

PROs:

  1. small size and weight
  2. versatility. the user gets 3 types of light: running, camping and red
  3. flashing red is useful as an emergency or to distinguish yourself when driving along the road
  4. good light quality (color temperature and CRI)

CONs:
there is no full-fledged firefly of the order of 0.5-1 lum
small battery capacity. Comparable size flashlight with 14500\AA battery will last longer and shine brighter
price

As a result, it turns out that the flashlight has a typical problem for almost all universal models. As a chassis, it is worse than an ordinary compact pocket light. Here it will be more interesting not only almost any 14500 \ AA, but even a decent AAA keyligh.

And it is also doubtful as a camping lnatern. Camping light should be enough for at least the evening. Here you have 1 hour at more or less decent brightness and that’s it. Again, 14500\AA with diffuser on will be more interesting - a perfect example is my favorite, Wurkkos TS10. With similar dimensions, it does not have such a big difference in price. And that’s not to mention the compact 18650 type Wurkkos WK03.

What’s left, red and flashing red? The first one is good, but how often is it needed? And flashing red is also available on sofirn sc02, which costs half as much.

In short, I see Wurkkos WK04 as some kind of backup flashlight that you can throw in a backpack or glove compartment just in case. I would not have much interest in keeping it constantly in my pocket. But to receive as a gift, of course, it would be nice. After all, versatility is good.

Yes, for a gift. Wurkkos WK03 seems to me more like a good gift for a child. Like Sofirn SC02 for these purposes, it is suitable both in size and in the possibility of shining this way, and that way, and like that. A flashlight can both shine under your feet and give light inside a hut or a house made of blankets.

It will not blind, and it seems to me that it will be difficult to break it. If I were 9-12 years old, then I would be really happy to receive such a universal flashlight as a gift.

A clear design idea is essential for a product. To be honestly, I have not find a suitable goal for this tiny lantern.
