XHP50.3 HI in Jaxman Z1

I upgraded my Jaxman Z1 to a 5000k XHP50.3 HI from Cutter.

A comparison of the original XHP50, the XHP50.2 I put in several years ago (underwhelmed), and the 50.3 HI (very pleased). I forgot to take the picture until after I reflowed the LED.

From the factory.

Digging out the old adhesive.

Cleaned up.

Sunny side up!

Reinstalled.

The white border around the die really shows up in the beam. I do not like this.

I painted over the border with some “matte” Krylon which turned out to be fairly glossy. I’ll have to touch it up with some flat black. Someday. Anyway it worked surprisingly well, except for my shaky hands.

My buddy has the same flashlight, so I was able to do a before and after side-by-side. A vast improvement!

Nice crisp beam. The coyotes were howling on the hill. I shined this over and they shut up immediately!

After he saw my results, my buddy let my upgrade his Z1, on the right. The second time, I did a far better job masking the white border around the die.

Nice mod kevinthefro! Thanks for sharing.

Nice! If you add a precollimatore you will get a much bigger hotspot with the same throw. I have done this with a Z1 here.
