Hi. I’m considering buying another thrower which is available in either U2 or U3 emitters.
In my experience, the U2 is rather cool, tint-wise (I have a few xml U2 flashlights).
Does anyone have any U3 lights? Is the U3 a warmer tint than the U2?
Btw, I have the Skyray STL-V2 (xml-T6) and I like the tint (close to neutral white) a lot.
There are different tints available in the different efficiency bins, but IN GENERAL I would expect the U3 to be even cooler than the U2. Are there some U2 tints that are cooler than some U3 tints, yes, there probably are, but again, generally the higher brightness/efficiency bins are going to be cooler in tint.
Hank at I-O has the U2 in 1A and 1B, while the U3 is 1C - this seems to be the common stock now by everyone. I got 4 lights now with a U3 1C in them and they all got a yellow, neutral glow to them. It's not as strong a neutral as the BLF Mini's (T6 3C), but definitely warmer than a U2 1A. Definitely noticeable difference.
I would judge the U3 1C is still brighter than the U2 1A, but not by much. If the Crelant offering is any sign, the U3 1C 7G5CS is rated at 920 lumens while the U2 1A version is rated at 895 lumens, not much, but you get a warmer tint.
I didn’t want to order the new U3 and then be terribly disappointed (should it be cooler than the U2).
With regards to the Crelant, the increase in brightness is so small between the two
that it’s not an issue with me… but the tint is.
