XP-G R5 headlamp for 8.80$?? Is this a XP-G R5 LED??

Hi BLF!

I have just spotted at “DX new arrivals” a headlamp which CLAIMS to have a XP-G R5 LED for only 8.80$.

For me is very difficult to see if that led is really a XP-G

Can anyone help and say if that is a xp-g?

Look the photo showing the LED. It seems xp-g but the led is behind some kind of lens or something… barely distinguishable…

Uses 3xAAA and has 3 mode (H L Strobe)

If it really has a XP-G, for 8.80$…. ok, we dont know at which current is regulated, and the heatsinking.

Just wanted to share.

Thanks

Interesting, you can't really see anything behind the lense (which is a TIR btw) so there is really only 1 way to find out. ;)

Interesting, I spotted this one too and thought it might be good for night time trail running. Any idea how much runtime 3xAAAs would typically give in something like this?

It depends on how good/bad regulated is (if it has any regulation…) I espect about 30 minutes of ful brightness and then decreasing… (I can not confirm that)

Thanks fran82.
Yes that’s about what I thought, not really long enough for what I need.
I like the design though, don’t like the headtorches with a separate battery pack and connecting wire - it seems messy and likely to fail. Fenix HL30 looks like my best bet so far, except for price :frowning:

anyone have a link?

lo

Can’t guess on the runtime, but can make an educated guess that it’s not apt to be bright enough for actual trail running. (Best case, I give it 100 floody lumens, which really isn’t much at speed. Worst case, it’s a bit of a thrower, and might drive you mad with the hotspot bobbing around.)

if it says it’s a horse and it look like a horse… then IT IS a horse

I currently use a (handheld) Fenix L2D CE which I find has a good mix of several hours runtime and good brightness. I tend to use it on high (~135 lumens?) with the odd blast of turbo (~180). The hotspot can be slightly annoying though.

I’m curious about the budget headtorch options, but have probably been spoiled by the performance of my Fenix! And I’m only really interested in AA / AAA cells to avoid extra chargers etc.

I also like the design of this headlamp, without rear battery and the external wiring. I ordered this last week. Hope it arrives sooner. Update you with pictures and feedback about the light.

Will be interested to see what it’s like. I ended up getting a Zebralight h51 which I’m very happy with for trail running, but it’s not exactly ‘budget’! :money_mouth_face:
