Yes knives are sharp (pic warning)

IIRC the sound of humming is not the death of the cell itself, but the aftermath, an echo that is purely within the nerves, but after the cell itself dies.

Also have tinnitus, but it's not so bad as to bother me most of the time. Has to be a very quiet for me to be bothered by it.

Couple of options though... white noise machine, or a fan. Even at a low barely audible level it's enough to eliminate the "eeeeeeeeee".

A man has grown frustrated with his wife's obvious hearing loss. He returns home from work one day, and, realizing his wife is in the kitchen making dinner, he decides to test her. From the doorway he says in a normal tone, "Hi Honey, what's for dinner?" Getting no response, he advances towards the kitchen and repeats his query. Still with no response he enters the kitchen and tries again. At this point his wife turns to him and says, "For the third time, meat loaf and potatoes."

+ 1,000,000 on the earplugs, too late for me, but maybe you can make a believer out of someone.

As a thirty-six year barber , I lost track of how many cuts I've had many years ago .

Barbering tools are very sharp .

Like the time I dropped a straight razor , and with cat-like reflexes , caught .

It was only the once .

I cut myself today with my shears . Usually I only cut my self if I'm cutting a child's hair , as they move quickly and without warning . They zig , I zag , and Ouch !

Today though , it was an old man with advanced Parkinson's .

Ah , well , it's all part of the job .
