I had used as my Avatar a photo of my Texas Poker light made by Photon Fanatic for quite some time, and then changed it to the Titanium X6 from Rey for a while. Lately the customization of a Q8 into my “Ham’r” build had me play with a shot of the 17 emitters illuminated in low mode but there are several here with a similar overall appearance so I wanted to do something unique. Hence my newest Avatar, the Polar Bear on the ice with an Eskimo kayaking nearby and waving at brother bear.

This is actually an oil painting on canvas. I took a picture of it and sized/cropped for the Avatar. Why is it special to me? Well, I painted it 46 years ago as a 10 year old child. My art teacher was wonderful, she would make her students home made donuts on their birthday! She was, of course, special in a lot more ways than that and I remember my art lessons fondly. I remember that she would sharpen her pencil by using her teeth! She passed away many years ago but is dearly remembered by a LOT of students.

This painting is a small 8 x 10 canvas and it’s been on my walls since it was painted, one of those items that has been in front of me for so long I don’t tend to see it anymore. So I thought it would be neat to use it here, an indicator of who I’ve been for a very long time… a stubborn and persistent individual that likes changing things to suit his own sense of style (yes, even this is modified from the original design idea. lol ) … hope it’s well received. Amazing how even my horrible memory can recall the two additional seagulls that were in the picture and I butchered them when painting them in, to the point that my teacher had me obliterate them into the colors of the sunset. And so it goes…

Thanks for looking,

That is a very nice avatar/painting.

Somewhat ironic that a Texas boy painted such a cold scene and it became a favorite. I’ve never shoveled snow a day in my life! lol

Nice painting, Dale!

wow, people have really cool skills on here. I have never painted anything in my entire life - I couldn’t draw a straight line if you asked me to.

I like it, Dale. My art teacher was just weird.

That is a cool picture Dale.

Its a lot nicer opened up full size in a new tab.
Looks like the Polar Bear and Eskimo know each other. Or was the Eskimo taunting the Polar Bear with a wave, come and get me?

When was a 10 years old kid, I certainly couldn’t to that. It’s still looks good even if you said 40 y.o. you made that.

Looks very Canadian North! (just curious Dale, is the glow-tub on the Steam-Pipe light still glowing after the few years? I finally changed the standard Alkaline cells after nearly 5 years non-stop running as it got a bit dim, ( more worried about leakage) so i replaced them with Lithium primary AA cells.
