You are thrown on a barren island for 2 weeks, bring 3 lights of your choice

mag458…. so I can start a fire easily

asgard, sh load of sanyo 2800mah protected cells, xtar wp2 ii charger (power for……) mobile,

beer, lots of aldi bitter.

So uhm, we're expanding to include other items aside from just flashlights?

Because if so... I'll take one survival kit please :p

I'll have Larry Ellison's yacht and a landing stage please? :P

  • Zebralight H51c or H502d. It’s hard to overstate the usefulness of having both hands free and still being able to see. Plus, they get rather long runtime on low/moon modes.
  • XinTD C8 V4, possibly modded with a dedomed XP-G2 for better throw. Sometimes it’s handy being able to see stuff far away, or to signal to others from a distance. Alternately, a Nitecore SRT7 could be pretty useful, especially for signalling, since it has color modes. Or perhaps self-defense, to some extent. Bigger throwers would be nice too, but might not be worth the extra weight and bulk.
  • A third light seems like it might be redundant. It could be handy to add in a “Krypton” laser though, if that counts. Good for starting fires and a variety of random odd tasks, but it could also easily backfire by hurting someone (including me). Laser safety goggles would be a required extra here.

And, of course, a bunch of extra fully-charged batteries in waterproof cases. Three weeks isn’t long though; I regularly get more than that from my Zebralights even with multiple hours per day of use.

Any flashlight within $400??
Custom made lights?

Three flashlights that take 3 x 32650 (with sleeves to accommodate 18650, 14650, 10440. Do the make a 2650?)
Liquid cooled led like this.

Flashlight one is made out of pure dark chocolate mint.
Flashlight two is made out of pure fluffy marshmallow. Excellent heatsinking there.
Flashlight three is made out of sold gram cracker. Great waterproofing.
Oh yea, and the led cooling liquid is everclear 190-proof :ghost:

Just need to find some firewood.

Anyone want to join me on my corner of the island?

1. Zebralight SC52 with a few extra batteries… ( It’s barren, what the h*ll am I gonna see?)
2. Bacardi light rum ( case )

It is amazing how little we would need to meet this challenge today, compared to years ago.

Today the right AAA key chain light and one or two extra AAAs could get you through this challenge.

Three ANSI lumens with one extra battery would give you 54 hours, and 3 lumens is adequate for walking.

C8,3pc 18650.
*I hv this, so i know how long it can last.
J18, rest goes to 26650.
*Can defend myself against?

I changed my mind - I’ll grab my XinTD and come to your island. Between us, we can buy more Scotch.
With enough Scotch, I can see in the dark with no flashlight at all, just from the
natural glow!

I am going to follow suit. I will say my BLF A8, and a case of private stock. If I am stuck on an island, why not act like a pirate?

Any chance I can get a drop shipment of ice every night?

edit: ok I will play...

I dont have any of these yet, but I will say:

1. k40 modded by vinh = $150-160

2. ZL sc600 mkII = $95

2. BLF A8 = $23

3. ZL h600 = $108.50

Cells:

12 Panasonic NCR18650B = $81.90

$373.40.... Still enough left over for a bottle of Captain Morgans Private Stock...

Pulsar you’re going to need to budget for some batteries too.

guess i missed the last part. figured when he said $400 for lights i assumed i could bring my own cells...

edit: updated my post... managed enough for a bottle too

Even if we could bring our own cells, I only have like 30 in total. I guess that’s alright.

I only have 12 18650s. but I also only use the levels I need, which does not involve high too long

I’d spend the whole $400 on Captain Morgans Private Stock and make my lights and batteries out of coconuts

I missed that batteries were part of the budget too. That might change things...

Uhm, can I just get a thermal blanket, knife, a lighter, and one SRT7 with spare batteries, as well as just lots, and lots of water bottles?

To survive two weeks, you can basically go without food. Without water though...

  1. Sunwayman D40A - Crazy long runtime (weeks!) on moonlight mode, with excellent throw on high, beacon modes
  2. Zebralight H502W - Even crazier long runtime (months!) on moonlight mode, good flood, clip for hands free operation
  3. BTU Shocker - Insanely bright and throwy

_
Total = ~$230 without batteries.
The rest of the budget would go for batteries, specifically Eneloops and Panasonic 18650 unprotected cells. (I normally prefer protected cells, but since there will be no charging them on the island I would prefer to not run the risk of the protection circuit tripping on low voltage and leaving me with a dead cell.)

You could supplement it from your medicine chest.

I’d bring my thrunite saber, a AA 14650 3 x 219 Minimag, and the ray gun using laptop pulls, 3 x 1000 mA solar chargers ($60ea) and two sets of cells for each light. A solar still and 3 weeks worth of nemo’s underwater pizza delivery service.

Question: which would be more visible at 40,000’, a 100mW green 532nm laser or an xp-g2 at 2A with a 35mm smo reflector?
