SC63 and SC64 use identical bodies and do not having any knurling.

That poster was probably talking about the SC600.

I think I’ll settle for the stock SC600FD Mk IV Plus. I hope I will like the defused light. That even pattern of light is cool. I just don’t want to sacrifice a huge lumen loss by going frosted. I guess I won’t know unless I buy it. If I do go with it, I have heard reports of the frosted versions of the SC600 lights to have a high chance of the frosted lens getting broken, or being broken in shipping. I hope whatever was the cause of that has been addressed.

I love it! Should be the same thing! I just ordered it! Expensive! 1 SC600fd Plus MK IV and two flat top Panasonic NCR18650GA batteries with shipping set me back $136.00! Hopefully they both arrive at the same time! I hope I don’t get one with a busted glass lens. If I like it I might order 1 more as good things come in pairs! (It’s also nice to have a shiny new one in case I get the other one all dinged/scratched in use.)

Good. I did see a Amazon review of one with a crack, and have read that the frosted ones were more prone to it.

How good are the POGO pins? Are they a nice replacement for springs? Will they hold their tension for a long time of repeated battery swapping? I’m looking at long term durability.

Not had any issues myself with the pins , some have had their flat tops pushed in after drops. Now I have had that myself , but not on a ZL yet. I guess I have not dropped one hard enough yet. The pogo pins allow for a shorter light and apparently better contact. So with this comes cell length fussiness! New customers or generally people who don’t actually read up can get caught out and the odd “why won’t my button top or protected cell fit?”. Any high drain flat top I have works/fits . So I use vtc5 and vtc6 along with 30Q all flat tops. A button will not allow the tail cap to be fully secured on the sc600 mkIII and IV = no connection=no worky.

As for the frosted lens cracking ,a while back and maybe some are still out there from years gone by. But there has been reports of cracks happening. In the last couple or so years(if memory serves me right), they changed the glass to some kind of gorilla glass II or alike. No issue myself and not read anything recent or on the later models anyway. I am sure a hard /high enough drop will break most lens’s though. If it ever does happen, $15 and off to ZL for a new frosted lens.

I know it is not the IV versions but its a pretty close to the general idea.

I do like the flood on the FD Plus more than the narrow beam of the HI.

Look at that brute force wall of light on the Plus! It lights up the house in the background better than the HI!

Nice find those photos, big difference in beam between those, was there by chance a shot also of the the SC600w (non HI)?

Still wondering if it’s a good compromise between them:

I only found these images so far. I received the SC600fd Plus MK IV and it looks quite nice. I can’t fire it up yet as I’m waiting on the batteries. One thing I’m a little concerned with is the tail cap. Is it normal to have so much slop between the body threads and the cap threads? When I thread the cap to the body it feels quite sloppy/loose. It’s as if the threads have too much gap. It isn’t loose when you thread it to the end.If you slightly unscrew it it’s a sloppy wobble feeling. It seems to have zero resistance twards the end when the cap seals up with the oring on the body. It’s definitely different than the SC5w MK II’s tailcap / body screw on feeling. Is this normal for Zebralight SC600 ?

I will check mine later today when I get back in. I certainly don’t recall any slop feeling in the tail cap threads. If anything super smooth will little movement to a secure feel when tightening over the O ring. Will look for it and report back.

Thank you. I’ve put in a request to order an extra tail cap to be sure. When turning the cap on the threads it feels as if the tolerance of the threads has been set larger. It’s as if the cap can float on the threads with a fair amount of play/wiggle. On my SC5w MK II it had just a little bit of that but when you got to the o ring it would snug up to it with some resistance. With the SC600Fd Plus IV it feels like the o ring is too small or the cap was cut too much on the inside. It doesn’t feel like a tight seal at all. There is no resistance. When the cap is fully screwed on, despite the feel of poor o ring contact, it will stay secure. It just doesn’t take much at all to unscrew it from the tightened position. The threads are greased well.

Hi there, sorry for delay, side tracked with actual sun shine here in the UK, then mowing the lawn and finally the new god of war game! :person_facepalming:

Tried both my sc600’s and both do have slop or movement in them off the O ring. Not more or less than pretty much other lights i have. Tried both the sc62 as well, also a PK light. Nothing felt untoward with the sc600’s or any worse/better. On the sc600 you can move the tail caps (wobble so to speak) and also pull/push for a little play in the threads before making the O ring.

Its a tough one, its a case of would need to compare directly to get an idea. As yours seems obvious and can presume worse than other lights with you noticing it. It does sound like you are on the end of some poor QC. ZL i am sure will sort, if not happy return for another. You wont be the 1st or the last! That is one of the reasons i try and get in the UK, in case any of the issues or LED tint etc etc crop up. I can return rather than sending China for example. Flip side is it limits me on choice and availability.

I have been pretty lucky out of the 7 or so ZL’s in total, only one i could not get on with was the sc5c mkII. The sc53w is not too far behind it either…………

Thanks for the info. I ordered some tailcaps. Will see how the work out. I got the light through Amazon so I hope I get the caps before a return window closes. It sounds like the play on the cap is common on the SC600 then. I wish that wasn’t there as it sort of takes away from the quality feel. I suppose it’s not a deal breaker so long as it doesn’t cause striping issues when the battery adds tension on the tailcap threads. Mabey I’m over thinking about the issue but I didn’t expect that from a ZL. If it is QC issues I suppose it happens.

My SC62d tailcap is loosey goosey, I’ve had it for a long time and it’s never been an issue. Ano is still on the threads so they aren’t wearing prematurely.
I have a habit of pushing against a threaded connection that has a load on it to remove the pressure from the threads so my results may be different than yours.

Ok. Glad to know it’s not an issue. I finally charged up the NCR18650GA batteries and now I’ve been able to install it and test the light. I am happy to inform that the tail cap fits fine and when installing the battery the tail cap is tight and won’t back off by accident.

I’m also happy to inform that I have fell in love with this light. The tint, the high cri, the flood, and colors, It’s fantastic!! I took some test shots on my phone and thought I’d share.

Now I see why the light was $99.00! 5000k High CRI is my favorite tint from now on!

Awesome!! glad happy, yes ZL are amazing little lights and worth the money. The hard part is not wanting more!

I forgot you did not have a cell in the light, that looks like it made the difference as there as no actual force(compacting the pogo pins).

Either way sounds sorted and a happy chappy, win win!
