Zoomie Headlamp?

I have been looking to update my antiquated headlamp gear. Mostly, I am interested in close range performance while walking wooded trails. Stepping on a resting Copperhead snake is something I would like to avoid. And, being able to peek through the nearby brush to see what is rustling the leaves is important. But, the ability to zoom the beam for more distant viewing is a definite plus for me in more open terrain. I really like zoomies with their wide, even close range beam and lack of concentrated hot spot.

Recently while walking through Walmart, I noticed the Coast HL7 for $25. I bought it. Having used it several times, I really like it. I also like the “infinitely” adjustable intensity feature. But, it is only 285 lumens and could be a bit brighter on max output. We always want more lumens… don’t we? So, I have done a bit of googling. The Coast HL8 is available but only offers a about 100 lumens more. So, it probably wouldn’t really make that much of a difference. I have noticed several other, mostly obscure, brands of focusing, or zoom, headlamps. But, I can’t really find much in the way of feedback on user performance.

Does anyone here have any recommendations on a higher output (500+ lumen) zoomie headlamp?

Thanks

hey mate I love my headlamps also they are so versatile. i have not really seen many variable zoom headlamps from the big brand name manufactures.

how far do you think you will need to see? watch this the Nitecore HC30 you can get at least 100m out of it! sorry about my bad camera holding!

If you need throw take jetbeam hc20, when in need for flood, just use a difussor.

i own the HC30 and the HC20 and i swear the HC30 out throws it lol

i love my hand made head lamp. use it all the time.
just got this cheap head lamp from eBay and use it as a host.
i used an old nokia headset switch as my headlamp Eswitch to swap mods.
qlite driver 3A and XML t6 4c led

Thanks for the replies guys.

That’s quite the setup T-boon. About the only thing missing from your rig is a solar panel…

But, I am really looking for feedback on any bright 500+ lumen zoomie headlamps. I posted a link to an example below. It looks interesting. 1000 Chinese lumens! The design probably isn’t going to like getting wet.

Anyone with any favorable experience with this or any other nice, bright zoomable headlamps?

Thanks
