Oh man, I got a little heat at home. Made my wife go home to pickup up the DHL package off the stoop - I was worried..., and got 5 more packages today from USPS. Why must they come all on the same day???
Beats the old Shocker all-around, little in stock throw, a lot in stock lumens, lighter more compact package, better UI with the dual side switches, better driver. Wish I had a Shocker to show comparison shots with.
Great, that means I’ll probably actually use this unlike my Shocker that’s only been used for a few minutes. Those side buttons would have been enough to make it worth using, but it’s awesome that it’s better in several other ways too.
thanks for the quick pics. Is it as front heavy as it looks? I hope its evenly distributed.
the switch looks very tall, is it spongy at all? is there a loud click when you press the switches?
very much looking forward to your numbers?
Feels to be perfectly balanced at the tripod mount, even with the switches. It's a beast, no light weight for sure - 998g w/batteries, while the Shocker was just over 1200g w/batteries. It kind of sort of feels top heavy, dunno if it's an illusion, but you have to hold it around the fin area - holding the battery tube and it will be top heavy. Problem is where's the heat - well, it's right there around the switch at the worse spot, and that's where you need to hold it. But it took 6 mins on turbo for it to heat up well, to about 110F surface temp (IR meter).
Just received the light today, saw it initially this evening, so I tried to pack in as much as I could in the limited time. Figure there are many waiting for further information and diagnosis. I'll try to answer as many questions as I can in the review thread.
Gold is often used for coating springs and parts for electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. You chose silver instead. Why? Is it pure silver or some silver alloy, as pure silver is susceptible to oxidisation… Thanks!
For what it’s worth, the P binned XHP-70 at over 11A makes 7400 lumens in an L6. (over 7500 lumens with no lens in the way) This from a pair of Basen 4500mAh cells.
Sorry for OT but there is a “P” binned XHP-70 ? Can you point me to a place where to get these? How much more powerful is that one compared to the N2 or N4 bins ?!?
K.
This ain't the lumens monster - check out the MT03, but of course can't compete with your triple XHP70 Shocker, but the Shocker II could give it a run. This light does about 6A-7A, as I measured last night - not bad for stock.
You might actually get a little more amps out of a pair of LittaKola 5000's, least the older good ones. In my modded L6 (triple channel w/SIR800DP FET), I got little more amps on the LK's then the BASEN's (10.45A vs. 11.8A), even with the long 20 AWG LED wires I got in there now.
