will make a beamshot for Uking review (I modded it with the good parts of a kronos X5)
Sigh I thought the review was ready, but indeed a good chance to show some impact of reflectors
I will take comparing pics of 4 lights with the same driver/led/tail switch combo in different housings:
All good stuff of kronos X5/X6 (XPLhi/driver/lighted tail)
Convoy C8 OP reflector
Uking
kronos X6 (waits for taking the good stuff out to be placed n a nice host)
Atrolux X5 counterpart (this will be another cell but hey.

I am in for one.

Looking forward to it! :+1:

My assumption is that the closer the reflector is to the LED, the more spread there is and the less it contributes to throw.
EasyB’s claim is that the throw/lux is proportional to the front area.
If you combine the two, it actually makes sense because the closer the reflector is to the LED the less area there is reflecting the LED, which in turn offers less improvement to throw/lux.
So basically increasing the depth will increase the amount of light collected, but the amount of throw/lux will look similar to graph #2 where it showed the area.

No it doesn’t say anything about how large the corona is or hotspot is, but it does show that the “diminishing returns” come sooner for lux than it does for lumens.

5ar design v0.6

I hope you like it, tomorrow I will publish photorealistic renderings.

That’s incredible 5ar.

Awsome 5ar!!

Should i say WOW!!!

I WANT IT!

Nice!
(And wow 2000 posts already just wow)

I  the latest design 5AR

Why has no one addressed the fin placement on Fritz’s design?
What good are they going to be if they are all below the hottest area? I fail to see why there are no fins directly inline with the internal DTP. A few fins machined in to the bulbous part above the switch would be the go, I believe. Even one or 2 above it (as well as the current ones)

That was one of the first things I talked about with Fritz. He did some thermal analysis himself and results shows that the temperature would decrease by a few degrees. Not really worth it.
There is just a lot of mass to absorb and distribute the heat away from the led. Sure more fins or better placement would help it but that asks for a total redesign and that was not the point, and that goes for every design and every flashlight.

5ar,

All I have to say is…

I must say I like the looks of Fritz design better. It’s more “clean” to me. On the other hand, the TA/5ar design seems more functional in most ways. I don’t see the benefit of the tac ring on a tube this big though, you won’t be cigar-carrying it

As long as it’s removable, fine, but just seems silly.

Those in-hand renders are sweeet though.

Nice 5ar !. Big and bulky as we want it to be !
This flashlight is big. Trying to find situation when I will use it.

Mostly to impress peoply maybe :sunglasses: .

Hmmm… 5ar, Did you leave any space for the tail cap switch? How is it going to be held in place? Another suggestion, Can you color all the O-rings? Can’t see how are you going to prevent water sipping into the light, I see one on the reflector bezel but not the other ones…

Just noticed the giant quad render. That thing would be absolutely nuts.

Yeah that quad is kind of a little (cough ehm big) idea for second version if the pure thrower GT goes well

It is nuts, but else it was called the MT (mini thrower).

GT stands for Giant Thrower
