To have a e-switch at tail, the light needs a double-layered body, one layer for switch signal and another for current?

Is that a common design? It seems quite complex … how are the two layers insulated, there is a layer of plastic in between?

No it is not common, could become more common :slight_smile:
Anodisation does not conduct so if both tubes are anodised there are two layers of insulation between them
