I think the Q8 should just be a good flashlight, period
And if people need to mod so bad there are plenty of other lights around that could be a lot better with a mod.

I think it all boils down to this: Do we want to wait another 1-3 months to get such a board made, tested, and approved (or rejected and redesigned, re-tested, and approved) or do we just go forward now, knowing that somebody will develop a board for other emitter footprints soon enough once the light gets produced? Somebody will surely make such boards given the hearty interest which a few folks have exhibited over them 
And Iām sensing something else here too. It seems that TF and the Q8 team are somewhat weary after all the effort which has been expended, which has been a huge effort and time commitment on numerous peopleās parts. Itās been a long race and the finish line is in sight; letās not move it further away now . Let everyone wrap up the last detail or two and take a well-deserved break while TF kicks it into their production schedule.
Everybody here is a winner with this light, even those whose ideas didnāt get adopted, because all of those things were well discussed making it easier to implement them into something else later on in a better way. Every original design goal has been exceeded, sometimes hugely and sometimes only by 50% (Only? When has another BLF special done that even in just one area? ). More has been added far beyond the original design and weāre still talking the same price we started with- now that is all simply amazing to me :sunglasses:
The wine is mature and nearly ready to be enjoyed which is the whole point of all the effort :+1:

First of all let me make it crystal clear I am NOT one that is pushing for, suggesting, or advocating a dual footprint MCPCB.
I simply want/would like to know what the ādesign differenceā is between a single & dual footprint board. That is all.
Some people are saying it would be no problem designing & making a dual footprint board.
Others are saying the exact opposite.
This leaves the mentally challenged, such as myself; confusedā¦. to say the least. :person_facepalming:
Both groups canāt be rightā¦. I donā think anyway.

Is it easy for Thorfire to change the mcpcb to a dual footprint board? No
The Miller elaborated on the many reasons itās not easy for Thorfire to do this.
I think anyone who said it would be easy for Thorfire to switch designs were purely speculating. I would have to defer to The Millerās answer.

AFAIAC the rest of it is a mute point.
The explanation djozz gave several post back as to why it was a very bad idea to change anything about the MCPCB made perfect sense.
Perfect sense in that it could lead to untold Q8 misery with what TF might come up with.
Nobody wants that possibility to be introduced any more than it already is.
And that is by far the best summary of the situation Iāve read so far! You are clearly enlightened.

I finally did some testing, now that Iām back from Asgard and have a working computer again. Not sure how much Tom will have time to change, or how much he wants to change. There donāt seem to be any important firmware issues, but there might be some small things to fix or some small improvements to add.
ā¦ and hopefully it wonāt turn out like the X6v2, where the units shipped with old firmware. That was unfortunate.

Thereās been so much confusion because copper, brass, and bronze all seem to translate poorly to Chinese.
It would be good for them to know how Djozzās phosphor springs made in Netherlands were specified ā alloy? unique identification numbers?

Iām very pleased that the Q8 has a tripod mount, and Iāll credit myself for being the first to suggest it waaaaay back in post #25!
The Noctigon Meteor doesnāt have a tripod mount, so I made one out of a quick-release ātruss clampā used in concert and theater lighting.
This type of mount is rock-solid for attaching the Meteor to a bicycle, ATV, or anything that can have a screw or bolt fitted to it.
Iām hoping the clamp will fit the Q8, too.
Can someone with the latest Q8 prototype share the diameter at the center of the battery tube?
I realize the diameter may change slightly for final production, but the truss clamp works from about 1-7/8ā to 2-1/8ā.
Can I give measurements in mm? Inches are so strange to me.
Of course! I speak metric as well as imperial.
BTW, 1 inch = exactly 25.4 mm.
