How how about that, you are just to fantastic Mr. R., good idea I guess but as always the last to know ha ha, glad I stop by now & then,
You gave all the reason I thought that might be a great idea, I sure wouldn’t drop a lot of money with any other vendor like this, but a Richard and a Hank like I mentioned is like money in the bank.
Plus once the word gets out about pre-sales, you’ll be the first to know what is selling out fast and have the money to easily get your restock underway earlier and without using your money ha ha.

So I’ve got my order placed now for 4 D4’s with tubes, thank you thank you very much.. however,
While ordering the 350 tubes I noticed your pics show a difference? I thought they’d be similar to your pics above and the grey is similar, but the green has some ribs on it and not smooth, plus no pic of black..

So, now I can just relax and worry about all the other darn lights I’m trying to remember to get my hands on, that is now 28 lights this year, is that a problem..?

By the way just sort of briefly,
I bought 8 Aspire 18350 cells from Aspire directly, didn’t you also mention you have an order in as well and on it’s way Mr. R..?

They are so nice I definitely need to buy another 8, especially for this light, and I can and will wait for yours to arrive in store and won’t pay that crazy shipping costs from Aspire twice,
I looked and I don’t see them posted yet at your store and their shipping really isn’t slow at all for average people, but maybe the quantity ordered might be different for you, many individuals are buying these up direct from Aspire like I did and I’d guess they are having issues keeping up with demand.

Idea number 2, A pre-order for the Aspire 18350 1300mAH 15A

I believe that the 18350 pics on Richard’s site are actually the green light with the 18350 tube and the grey light with an 18500 tube. The thread where Hank posted pics shows the three sizes side by side. Here’s the pic:

Also, I hope that Richard gets some of the Aspire cells in. I ordered a purple Efest, but with so much less capacity compared to the Aspire, I wonder if it’s going to be relegated to another light down the road.

Oh, interesting, so I just bought a few lights with tubes at Richards, so those aren’t 350 tubes? But 500 tubes.? Or probably are 18350 tubes but just pics of tubes and I will know what they will look like when they arrive.. ha ha ha… I don’t really care, they all look good to me.

I am fairly darn sure Richard has an order for the Aspire cells and it’s been awhile since I read that, so I have already gotten my cells directly from Aspire and I think his should be very close to arrival.
Off to Hanks, thanks again

What would be the throw difference between the XP-L HI and 219C? I imagine efficiency and heat would be better with an XP-L.

Triple click does batt voltage but Hank may want me to take it out.

I'm looking it over now. Need a few days.

4x is turbo only, where you have to hold the switch down to be on.

It's an awesome EDC for sure.

6X is lockout.

The switch is one of the nicest "feel" switches I've used, and, of course, I've used a lot of them. I'm dying to tear it down to see what it's using, but it's soft as I personally feel switches should be, easy to find the switch in the dark without looking because of the bump out, doesn't protrude to avoid accidental activation. Also the soft activation is great for ramping UI's.

Not bullet proof though. I had my cell phone and the D4 in the same pocket, and the D4 did go on without any lockout. It was on low, but still...

It has really really nice square threads, and a very small turn of the cap to lockout mechanically.

Boy, if they can keep up the quality, reliability in the batch builds, this is a really great deal. Sorry, didn't get to test output yet. Think this is a XP-G2 light I have as well - gotta re-check.

Heat is kind of crazy of course...

Ahhh, moonlight is simply the lowest ramp setting. It's not a really low moon but this is intentional. It's a nice usable moon. Of course there will be variation based on the LED's chosen.

Since I didn't attempt a tear down, I'm a little tentative bout the SS retaining ring on the switch. No insets for a tool, so not sure how to get it out - threaded or fitted, etc. Think NiteCore's I've seen were press fit, then you could use a knife blade to remove them for example. If threaded, maybe tight against a rubber surface may work...

So, I guess 1/2 lumen range? Less?

Do you know of a clip?

Oh boy... Don't think it's sub 1 lumen. It's between 5 mA and 10 mA I believe.

Haven't heard anything bout a clip but I can ask.

Tom, it sounds like you are working with Hank on the FW? Is it a variation of Narsil? And what is the driver hardware, like is it a FET driver?

Please tell me there is a pocket clip for it? I don’t want to have to space it out for a solarforce if it fits. This is like the perfect UI and would replace my Zebralights!

EDC rotation:
FW1A, LH351D 4000k (second favorite)
FW3A, LH351D 3500k
FW3A, SST20 FD2 4000k
FW3A, Nichia 4000k sw40 r9080 (favorite light!)
FW3A, Cree XP-L Hi 5A3
Emisar D4V2, SST20 4000k
S2+, XM-L2 T6 4C

Yes and yes. ATtiny85, classic FET+1. Easy simple design. Dunno all the details yet. I've been using it with a SANYO GA to back off a bit on the power/amps.

For the pocket clip, clearly on the 18650 tube there's an indent for a clip, though it looks narrow, actually the same indent and styling on both ends of the tube, but the tube is not reversible. There are many more threads on the tail end than the head.

I'll see if I can find a clip that fits.

I gave up buying flashlights several months ago, thankfully. It was a hobby/addiction for around 4 years or so. I had finally reached a point where I wasn’t interested in buying any more lights. Not sure what the secret was as I had tried many, many, times.

this offering is enticing Silly

just looked at the date I joined and it’s worse than I thought …. some 7 years.

Thanks for sharing some of the details Tom.

I added the deep pocket clip that Richard sells to my pre-order in hopes that it’ll fit this one. It’s more narrow than the one of my Astrolux S1 and I think I night be able to make it work. We shall see later this month. If not, I’ll use it on a Convoy light.

With the small size of this light, I was wondering if certain cells (30Q, VTC6 and others) might not be absolutely necessary. If it’s a scorcher at max lumens, a GA (which I use in almost all of my lights) might be plenty good.

I still ordered a few high drain cells though… Facepalm

Don’t feel bad PBWilson for buying a couple cells,
You didn’t know that you should never use already used cells in a new light..?

The UI seems also just about perfect for me. I too have a couple Zebralights and while I love them, I get a bit ocd/nervous and checking my pockets every few seconds for fear of losing them. This one being about 1/3 the price will let me rest easier and have a bada$$ light to light my way!

I’m also tempted by this new D4 light. I’m a fan of FET drivers and the FW is top-notch. I would get the cool white XPG2 and dedome them to get some respectable throw along with the big power/lumens.

My S2 with the triple carclo spot optic and dedomed XPG2 emitters does 26Kcd and makes a nice big powerful beam.

Aspire just told me that the cells are shipping today, so we should see them early next week.  They have taken a while to ship, but I should have plenty to go around.

Tom, the light you got has the Nichia 219C 5000Ks in it.  Did you forget about the e-mail I sent ya' less than a week ago?  Oh yeah...you're old.  We'll cut you some slack.  tongue-out

In terms of lumens would the nichia or XP-G2 win? I’m afraid the high Vf of the S4 2B might limit the output, while the 219C have been proven to pull 12+ amps in a quad setup.

Would love to see a clip that has a 90° bend and is attached to the flat end of the tailcap via screws, like the kershaw freefall below. The convoy clip might fit but I find it too easy to snap off during pocket carry. It will add 2 or 3 extra mm to the length but IMO it would be the the ideal type of deep pocket clip for this light.

Richard, will you be assembling the lights yourself? If so, would it be possible to order a few without the drivers?

XP-L will have higher output than either. As to Nichia, it’s probably only D260 (as that is what intl-outdoor has in the store) bin. It doesn’t answer your question though. Wink
