And what should I put in its place? I want warm to neutral white, and a large emitting area (MT-G2 would be ideal, but it is 6v and I don’t want to driver swap this thing). I realize I will probably have to focus/spacer the LED/MCPCB due to how high the stock LED is currently sitting.
P7’s were very popular for modding when they came out. I had several friends have me make them P7 lights for hunting, law enforcement, edc. 90 LM/W was powerful back then, with excellent color and throw in a long, deep reflector. Ii have a few in my collection. My favorite is a P7 in a HS-802 host.
De-doming this type of led is a real challenge !...The eight wires that are connected to dies , are long ( compared with XM-L's ones ) , and acting as the reinforce in concrete.., I tried once but failed , reaping apart the wires...( I have to say that my rate of success de-doming is close to 100% , even with SST50 and SST90 !)
I suggest to try first on a dead one , to see how is acting , and I assure you that you'll never try again , on a good one ..!
I used the P7 for about a year in that old Nuwai Q3 but eventually switched to a MC-E with a 20mm IMS SMO reflector for a better overall beam.
The introduction of the P7 and MC-E were game changers for all the incan flashlight manufacturers in 2007 and 2008.
The landscape was changing and they became followers rather than leaders in such a short time.
Paradigm Shift for flashlight tech.
