Will this light have regulation...and no step-down?
Hhmm, some may think regulation is step-down, or do you mean full temperature regulation that lowers and raises amps based on thermal sensing?
This is a very large mass light using a LED that has to be run amp limited with 3A or so considered the upper threshold. It takes a pretty long time to heat up in the protos, even without any thermal grease on critical junction thread connections.
I'm hoping the production units will have some moderate amount of thermal grease on the thread connection of the pill to head, and if so, it may be unnecessary to have any thermal regulation, but at this point we are considering a 10-30 minute or so default step down. Right now the firmware has only step down capability based on time or MCU measured temperature. I'm not sure with full temp regulation on the MCU based temp sensor because of it's location and calibration issues. If we used an external temp sensor, we would have better options. Again, really dunno yet whether any regulation is necessary - still early, still testing, etc.
Again with the NarsilM based firmware currently, step-down is supported via temperature or time, but fully configurable by the user, and can be fully disabled as well. We will consider though non-stop usage scenarios, search&rescue etc., in warm environments.
I’m not sure about a holster, in fact I may very well appropriate my sons little red wagon to cart this bazooka around. Either that or enroll in cross fit training to get in shape enough to wear it in a backpack and be able to walk for more than 10 minutes before passing out from exhaustion.
Hold off buying cells, we need to know more about carrier improvements first
Cool thing is that Lumintop wants to sell their cells of course so that adds another motivational factor in getting the losses as low as possible
i usually open multiple tabs at once and the thread title become truncated. If TheMiller could change the title a little into something like “GT: First prototypes have ARRIVED, a BLF special giga thrower” Instead of “First prototypes have ARRIVED The GT, a BLF special giga thrower”
That first word could give a clue as to which thread we are reading. Sometime i replied to wrong thread
nice to see this crazy thing exists now
this light is sooo useless (for me) and huge, that i want it so much!!
btw, i recommend to compare it with Maxtoch Shooter 2x
i`ve tested about dozen of throwers, no one could outperform it.
guys from fonarevka bought it after my russian review and wrote it performed better than olight 3x javelot
Well I plan on zoom my camera on the castle tower 820m away and compare the sample with the current king of throw TN42 (should be little throwier then the Shooter 2x)

yep, TN42 is a great choice. forgotten about it.
i do sure that TN42 can beat Shooter.
hope finally grab it into my collection )

There really is no comparison. I've modded a couple early Shooter 2X's, maybe got about 360 kcd (1200m) - think that's the rating of the dedomed XM-L2 U4 version. At 1.1 Mcd and in sheer size, no comparison.

well, that`s not about if shooter perfors better. of course not ) that`s about how much this blaster is more powerfull than shooter.
btw. i compared my shooter with L2…L2 was ok, but significantly less throwing
Damn bro thanks for the beamshots. I was looking at maxtoch shooter xml2 u4 dedome.. no step down for 70 minutes at 4.5 amp.. do you think sst40 dedome would throw better in this light??

Actually the modded acebeam t30 xhp 35 hi tested 2200 lumen and 375k lux.. but xml2 u4 is more efficient..
Location: A light beam away from the missus in the land of Aus.
Talking about things happening here is a run time chart with the BLF GT proto Narsil running two amps at the end of ramping.
This particular GT also has spring bypasses on the battery carrier.
The runs were stopped when the low voltage kicked in for the first time.

This chart is a comparison running the BLF GT on high, the original Narsil at 2.5 amps and the proto Narsil at 2 amps. Both runs were with 30Q batteries.

Also remember that those runtime tests are with the short tube 4 cell version, 45 mins from 4 cells before even dropping out of regulation! That is properly good.
So expect about double that from a long tube with a full 8 cells.
About 1.5 hours of full powered runtime and another ~1.5 hours before it hits LVP.

I think next step we need to order some good case or holster for GT.

I found a backpack designed for camera gear that will fit it for $13.00 from a seller in China.
Ok, thanks!
I’m pretty sure he’s talking about voltage/current regulation.

Which is strange, since it has a buck driver that does offer full regulation. I am lost what the complaint is even about.
Did he mix up the Q8 and the GT?

Has the price been decided, advertised, available? I think I asked to be on the list a few weeks back, but please add me just in case.
Best regards,
Matthew
The first 555 the cost will be $111, for all remaining orders it will be $150.
Retail price after the GB is planned at $249 but figure you will find coupons to knock it down to $200.
