I’ve built over 400 lights, the TK62 gave me fits, I managed some 535Kcd and traded it to Richard. The most I’ve ever acheived in Kcd, in any light, is 665Kcd. That was in the Olight SR-90 Intimidator. 1 million candela is not easy at all. Not at all.
It is not only about the throw, but also about the usefulness. The GT has an xhp emitter, which is by no means the furthest throwing led, but is usable in the real life. IMHO there is no point in having a pencil like beam which is too small to actually illuminate anything and all it is good for is lux measurement.
One of my flashlights has a pencil thin beam but at 1km it has a nice usable spot about 10m in diameter.
It’s also good as a sky beam, lots of fun to look at.
You could argue that the usefulness of the GT is also very little due to it’s huge weight and size, but that’s not the point.
Everyone has a different definition of “useful”.
If someone wants to put a tiny LED in it to make a superthrower, let them.
We already know the GT will have an XHP35, that’s not what the discussion is about.
You are right guys, to each his own. While I can imagine modding mine with an xhp 70.2, there will surely be other BLFers willing to swap in an oslon black flat to turn the GT into a laser.
Michael Johnson (aka saabluster), the maker of my Deft-X, has the Rev Victor as successor already reaching 1.4mcd (same host, using the newer S4 bin XPG2 at that time) and both models are not over-driven and will run MORE than a minute, sustain it, at turbo, so doubt no more.
All the above are nice lights no doubt but the difference being they are all modified. This light is available to everyone as a stock light.
I cant wait to see what these wizards do with this light.
Yup, but it is a much bigger light with a ton of cooling fins compared to the UF1508.
This is probably why the UF1508 is only 800-1000 kcd while the rev victor is nearing 1.4M.
At the beginning it was clear a smaller die led would give higher CD
The GT is not a pencil beam, it is a sharpie beam, not max CD, but easy to mod , not max lumens, again relatively easy to mod.
Yet stock throwing more then the king, TN42, making the GT the emperor
Can’t wait for the mods, it ought to be a really nice foundation to build on
Check with your local community college. They may have a laser engraver (as well as other fun toys). I had to take a 2 hour class, but can now play with their toys.
The one I use is 50W so it should work fine. Doesn’t take that much power to cut through the ano.
Another place to check are “maker spaces” They can have laser cutters. Libraries are also starting to offer these kinds of services in some areas. Also check Craigslist, there is usually a shop that does it in most metro areas. Post a wanted ad if nothing comes up.
Laser cutters will get to be like 3D printers at some point, still a bit too costly to make them super common right now.
thanks mate, but as i said i want to do this myself, i have some lights that i want to engrave them too, the fablab you mentioned is quite far from my house, it takes about 1 hour to come there
