Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Ah OK yes of course the blink on 0.25S is normal

Tear it down really careful
maybe take some pics, and I bet it is just a matter of touching 1 point with a hot soldering iron to get it working how it is supposed to work, the question is now, where is that point to touch?

You might try that reset feature Tom E has mentioned. Maybe that will get it working right.

Get it flashing the model version number, then press and hold for at least 1.2 seconds. That should set everything to default settings.

This is both awesome and a little disappointing. I still had a tiny bit of hope that the driver would include some last-minute changes to commemorate the Q8 having the longest thread on BLF:

/\
That would have been priceless!!

I must be doing something wrong. I’ve only got 8 orders there, if I only count the ones which actually cost money (so, no dev prototypes). The total spent is less than an average smartphone.

The majority of my flashlight-related purchases have been from Mtn.

Heheh I don’t want to know, but AliExpress gets most of my orders, though got things from Elfeland (funny sounds a lot like Dutch for fairy/pixie land) which is Banggood too.

Just saw 1497 pre orders and with the AE Elfeland orders we have reached 1500!
awesome!

Well, my first Q8 made it as far as Ellenwood, Georgia today… 10:56 edt. Looks like it will have a layover there for the weekend… a mere 135 miles from final destination.
Should be here by scheduled date of 9-19… unless it sneaks in here Monday.

Next week should be a big week for Q8 arrivals here at the ole’ Home Port.

That is all.
Carry on……

As far as I’m aware, the only lights with multiple bike mode brightnesses are a few of my personal lights. That feature never really caught on in production lights. In my recent ones though, the bike flasher ramps exactly the same way as the regular output modes.

Remember a few thousand posts ago when people said a lightning storm mode would be cool since it’s from Thorfire? It looks like you got your own mini-lightning-storm mode.

There’s probably a bad connection inside on one of the indicator LED wires.

On that note though, I have a lightning storm mode on my personal lights too. I got to try it tonight during an actual lightning storm, and tweaked it a little to be a closer match. It’s kind of nice to play a thunderstorm audio loop while the lightning mode is active.

For the bike mode, I'm pretty sure I just copied what TK implemented - she is a biker, and used it that way, so thought it was a good version. Almost anything can be done -- controlling the non-flash level is a feature not implemented, but I can see it's usefulness. It could be done. Always thought those modes are somewhat buried. For the bike mode, always thought it deserves a whole separate special firmware or separate mode of operation.

There was a question how to undo this.

Like I said above, it's temporary - only for this turn off. The very next full ON/OFF sequence will turn it back on.

amplificus is correct - in ramping, it's designed to blink once to indicate it's on the 7135 channel, twice for the FET channel. On triple channel lights (not the Q8), it will blink twice for the bank of 7135's, 3 times for the FET.

If the blinks looks normal and steady when doing other blinks like battery check, then it seems like it's only having trouble keeping the LED on when the MCU is in a low power state. So still could be a bad connection, bad solder job on a surface mount part, some partial grounding, or a bad LED.I forgot but think there are 2 LED's, if so, probably not one or both LED's.

I'd check those wires between the driver and switch PCB very carefully - maybe some exposed wire touching, making contact.

Take out the 2 screws holding the driver down. Should be enough extra wire to take a look inside. If nothing obvious, may have to pull the switch PCB.

Dang though - sorry to hear this. We haven't seen an issue like this in the ~10 prototypes.

Those LED wires are very thin and soldered close together - one could be pinched, or grounded, or scrape bare in a small spot - happened to me a few times.

Okay. I put a correction in my video description that the bike level is not adjustable.

A true higher end bike light is pretty impressive with features and options. I know at least one serious biker that has one - a light designed specifically for biking. There's all sorts of different applications - trail vs. highway shoulders, etc.

Very neat. I dont use the indicator features on my lights so I’m not real familiar with it.

Does ramping “lock in” to a mode? I thought that was only in mode sets.

So in ramping on the Q8, the indicator light normally stays on. When you press and hold to change the level the light turns off, then gives a quick blink to indicate when your on the 7135 and 2 quick blinks to indicate when your on the FET? Then when you release the button the light goes solid again?

Yea, in general the rule is the indicator LED is ON when the main LED is OFF and OFF when the main LED is ON. It's main goal is as a "locator" feature - to be able to find the flashlight, and switch, easily in total darkness.

Now on the other side, you will notice many stock lights work oppositely - switch LED is ON when the main LED is on. There is some merit to this, to be able to easily find the switch with the light ON, specially when your eyes adjust to high brightness it gets difficult to look at the dark body of the flashlight.

I see the new MF01 keeps it's switch LED on (breathing mode) both when the main LED is ON and OFF,and also has a feature to easily turn the switch LED OFF (when main LED is OFF, press&hold briefly toggles the switch LED). It's pretty nice and handy. It's the classic Manker "dragon's breath/breathing mode" implementation though and uses only one LED so the green glow is only around half the switch.

Does ramping “lock in” to a mode? I thought that was only in mode sets.

Well, kind of sort of. It "remembers" the ramping level, so if you turn the light off, then 1 click it back on, it returns to that level. BTW, it's important to understand that "remembered" ramping level is not saved permanently, so if you cycle power, like doing a mechanical lockout, the "remembered" level will be lost.

Ok, we hit 1500+ orders! At 1,505 now.

Ordered 1 of my 2…

Well. I’m somewhat disappointed.
Not with the Q8 - since I don’t have them yet - but with delivery and tracking.

I have been early on the interest list and one of the first to order (Priority Air Mail). After a long search through carriers I found the tracking numbers at dpdgroup.hk, where they told me my lights are “Waiting to fly away from Hongkong”.
This was 6 days ago.

Meanwhile I can’t track the items anymore since dpdgroup.hk moved to a domain parking service a few days ago. I can’t find my orders on any tracking service, worldwide and local.

Are they lost like dpdgroup.hk?

You try 17track.net

Neil

17track only shows a cached response since they also get their information from dpdgroup.hk which does not exist anymore. As the other meta tracking sites.
