I love neutral white, but this one has a great hot spot with a yellowish corona and a ever so slightly bluish spill when shinning on a white wall. Maybe I’m being overly picky. Everything else about this flashlight is fantastic. Yes, double click from off gets you to turbo
Thanks for the info. I’ve been noticing the newest leds from cree seem to have those characteristics, I just got an Xp-L2 and it’s tint is exactly as you described.
I agree with what you were saying in an earlier post that it’s mostly when illuminating white walls etc. and not in real use. But right now where we live, too warm, too cool and tint shift “rainbows” are real undesirable outdoors, everything’s white out there!
I’m amazed these high output lights don’t require the unprotected hi-drain batteries as L6, Q8 etc.
Two other lights with similar output also come with protected batteries: The Acebeam L30 (4000lm) and the Olight R50 pro seeker (3200lm) .
I assume the protection circuits are around 10-12A, which I believe is the highest available.
I’ve read that the latest generation CREE leds, the XP-G3, XP-L2 and XHP50.2 have quite some issues with so to speak “rainbows” being created using a (specific) reflector. Perhaps this is also the case with XHP70.2, and this is what you’re seeing. I have only one light with XHP70.2 (Haikelite MT07S), and I don’t have this problem.
Perhaps you could have similar issues with the cool white version. Only one way to find out.
Oh yeah we are! It’s also part of being a flashaholic to observe these technical aspects of a light and discuss. My Thrunite Mini TN30 NW has a nice neutral white spill, but the hotspot is seriously yellowish; it’s pretty bad. But the light itself is so typically Thrunite rock solid. UI is great, machining and finish just awesome, and there are barely reports of failed Thrunite lights, so you know you have a really good light in your hand. Knowing this and enjoying my light makes me forgive the poor tint easily.
Quite a few reviews on YouTube and several do a comparison with the Olight R50 Pro seeker XHP70 CW (not 70.2)
To get an idea on tint of the TC20 CW version, in this video there’s a live beam shot comparison of the TC20 CW and Olight R50, at 19.30 he puts them side by side and the the CW Olight appears warmer than the CW Thrunite, and the reviewer makes comment of it saying the Olight “looks more yellowish”.
In maukka’s review of the R50 Pro he measured the Olight’s hotspot at 5550-5860K in its center (7190-7700K in the spill) maukka commented about Olight making the R50’s tint CW instead of NW: “I would have expected a neutral tint and a CRI of at least 70. In an otherwise amazing light, this is a clear oversight”
So my guess is a true neutral fan won’t be happy with the TC20 CW version either.
.
In this YouTube review by HarleyWood23 he also compares it with the R50 Pro, in the live beam shots the R50 Pro looks a bit brighter in my eyes, although the Olight does have a larger hotspot. The R50 Pro is rated 3200lm.

Robo218 just posted an excellent review on the TC20 here that also includes his YouTube video: ThruNite TC20 (Compact XHP 70.2) / Full review
Check out his comparison photo with an X6… the TC20 is actually smaller!
(1/21/17 Post edited to correct a mix up on the videos and links)
Not trying to hijack the thread , but some of the questions asked about the TC20 here may be answered in my full review with lumens , amperage and some runtime charts………
Also the light I compared was not the R50 seeker as mentioned a couple of post above , but was the Olight X7 Marauder.
I can answer you with the CW version I just received…GREENISH AND YUCK! It’s not overly green but it’s there in all modes except turbo. It’s hard to describe but it’s a beam that, (to me), and for a lack of a better term is “sickly like looking through a slightly green fog”
Again, the turbo mode is nice and white and is what the other modes should look like. I’m very sensitive to greenish tints and to me, it’s very disappointing. I’m sure it might not bother some folks but like atbglenn said, we’re all somewhat overly picky here.
The light itself is very well built and otherwise very quality with only the slight mushiness in the activation button, (as one poster pointed out), the only other slight negative. But the beam color trumps it all.
I compared the CW beam of the TC20 against my D1 in CW that I received last month and it’s no comparison. The D1’s CW beam should be the standard that all CW beams should be, white, white, PURE WHITE! No green, no blue, no yellow, nothing but white.
I apologize as I have no way to show beam shots but this is going back. I just hope Thrunite doesn’t give me a hassle in getting a refund.
I hope you folks that ordered CW have better luck than me.
