Hey guys! I’ve been looking for a quality lantern for a long time. I was thinking of getting a Q8 and 3D printing a diffuser, but I stumbled across this thread and had to chime in with a few points/questions.
You talk a lot about how a top-down LED has a lot less glare than a bottom-up design. Why is this the case? Isn’t all of the light bouncing off of the white surface at the base anyways? Even if this is the case, wouldn’t it be easier to invert the lantern and have the battery carrier at the top instead of running leads for the wires up?
Are you planning on keeping the light water resistant even with the USB in/out ports? Do you plan on doing this with a rubber flap, waterproofed internals, or some other method? Is there any hope of using a single USB-C port for power both in and out?
What’s the advantage of using a frosted inner ‘mantle’ instead of just a frosted outer lens?
