Does this Lumintop angle measurment with the ruler spacer for the EDC05 seem like intentional deception? I wonder why Lumintop, a fairly reputable company, would publish pics like that. Even still, I have my EDC05 on order to compare with the UT01.
Cheating?… no, I have seen other manufacturers and reviewers try and quantify beam dispersion / spread pattern like this. Its probably one of the more useless ways to try and present this body of information though… IMHO.
Fixed exposure beam pics are much more useful, particularly the ones directly A/B comparing.
When I get my 05, I will try and compare beam pattern versus my UT01. The EDC05 with its XPL-HI factory de-dome emitter could out-throw the UT-01. But then again with different reflectors it could all end up being equal… which really is what I am expecting.
Oh… not sure I can help you there. My incoming 05 is the cold tint / pale white version, and my 14 month old UT01 is neutral tint. But I’ll do what I can ;^)
Just received my two EDC05’s CW versions today. They both came in a high quality box. The box includes the Titanium coated clip, two spare o-rings, a high quality orange lanyard and a free OEM Duracell AA Alkaline battery.
The lens is AR coated.
The end cap is mildly magnetic. It’s good enough to stay in place on a attractable surface but it can be flung off if bumped hard enough.
These two were not free review samples, as I paid $30.00 each for them on Amazon.
The EDC05 comes with a CW or NW Cree XP-L HI emitter.
The quality of this light is top notch.
I’d say Lumintop has a winner here. It’s tiny, powerful and is of exceptional build quality.
Totally worth the $30 bucks imho! It’s my new favorite AA EDC. Goodbye modded SK68!
High Mode with a Alkaline AA Battery __High Mode with a Protected 14500 Battery
It has a button on the driver and a double spring on the endcap. This light can accomodate a protected 14500. I’m using a EVVA 14500 with no issues. It’s basically the same as your KeepPower.
I don’t have any equipment to test but, here’s a comparison. The Left is my Jaxman E2L tripple XP-G2 S4 on high @ 900lm stock 2.1A driver w/ fresh battery. The right is the Lumintop EDC05 XP-L HI on high with a fresh protected Sanyo 14500/800mAh cell. I’d say it’s pretty damn close.
I’ve got a new issue that has developed on one of my EDC05 lights. It use to turn on before, but now it will not unless I twist the head to disconnect the battery and twist it back.
On the third EDC05 I have a intermittent button issue where it will not register presses even though you hear the button click.
The second EDC05 I have not used long enough to notice an issue yet.
I love these lights but these issues are unacceptable. I need these issues addressed and resolved.
Sorry to go off on a tangent here, but I noticed when I stared at the beam shot comparison image (Alki AA vs Li-Ion 14500) and kept my eye focused on it for a few seconds, it looks like the outer border/edge of the spill portion starts to shrink towards the hot spot… this is the first time seeing this. The Lumintop ED05 must have some built-in subliminal message sent via it’s LED…. I need go look at other whitewall beam shots now.
