[2018-03-11] Post-maintenance problems resolved

Hi everyone,

My sincere apologies for what was essentially 24 hours of downtime. I think we’re back up now and running at normal speed again.

To make a long story short, our server provider scheduled a brief maintenance window about 24 hours ago, which unfortunately coincided with me being out of town and away from a reliable internet connection. I had carefully tested the server before leaving to make sure it would come up reliably after getting automatically rebooted. It did come up, but something (I haven’t yet determined the root cause) made system load spiral out of control, and it got automatically throttled by the server provider, making it even slower.

Again, I’m very sorry for the unfortunate timing of all of these events. I’ll be looking at ways to prevent this from happening again.

Didn't realize how much I'd miss BLF until I could not get access.  Glad she's up and running again

sb56637,
Thanks for your hard work!

Mayor Glenn Welsch: There's a saying in Missouri, if you don't like the weather just wait five minutes. In Blaine, with hard work, I think we can get that down to three or four minutes.

Thanks for letting us know the cause

The Journal of Alternative Facts TM

"It is critical that there is a credible academic source for the growing and important discipline of alternative facts. This field of study will just keep winning, and we knew that all the best people would want to be on board. There is a real risk in the world today that people might be getting their information about science from actual scientists"

Nice to see it running smooth again! The downtime even forced me to do a boring led test last night that I was certainly planning to postpone for a while if the site was running normally. (Optisolis leds, report later today)

“I used to think that top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that thirty years of good science could address these problems. I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy, and to deal with these we need a cultural and spiritual transformation. And we scientists don’t know how to do that.”   (Gus Speth)

That’s a relief, I thought this site was being run by CPF!
