I modded my e01 with a yuji a while ago. With that experience I would not get a modded light from anyone for I could not be sure about its long term reliability. My specimen has worked just fine for half a year but I know that I made some specific damage to the LE and I am almost certain that there could be an additional damage that I am just unaware of. A night stand light? Probably. A bomb proof light with e01 logo? No way.
So I’d gladly buy a couple Fenix made yuji e01 regardless of price
For a keychain light, I prefer it to be white and bright. I won’t use it to do other things beside to see what’s in front of me so color rendering is not too important to me. I just don’t like the purple tint the stock E01 has.
If you want to make this, why not just get a manker boney? I don't think its potted and its not very expensive. I don't think the nichia has bad light either stock.
For cool white just remove the light from the boney and put a generic 5mm in.
It is not potted, so it should be easier to mod, but still doesn’t look particularly easy, and it’s questionable that it is as durable as the E01. Beamshots of the stock emitter don’t look any better than the Fenix.
Although this thread has died down for the last week or so, I just wanted to let people know that I’m still keeping track of new entries, and will pick up for slowtechstef in case they are unable to continue managing the effort.
So if anybody isn’t sure whether they should express interest, please do so, preferably including how many you would be interested in if an opportunity at the sub-$15 price target ultimate arises.
There is no obligation to buy at this stage, but the stronger the interest that can be presented to Fenix, the more likely it will lead to followup discussion.
What I meant was that I will continue to track entries if needed. My quick count looks to be around 70 lights.
Only a couple people stated a preference between warm and cool.
Which, by the way, would be a good thing to say if you do have a preference. I just edited my original post, for example, to note that I prefer warm but am in either way.
