DARKSIDE | NYMPH (10440 twisty Fet+1 flashlight w/ 4k 9050 219C)

Aw, no pics? Thats such a tease. Might be better left as a secret.

Id like to see a nymph raw or clear anodized, curious how that would shine.

Well, were almost halfway there, still have a ways to go though. I might be upping my contribution if not doubling my order depending on how things go.

I haven’t seen it either. I only heard about it.

I figured the normal method would be used — manually measure a dozen drivers or so, take an average, and use the same values on each. But I guess there’s an automated rig set up to flash the battcheck firmware, run it at specific voltages, count the blinks, compile the real firmware with those values, and then flash it again for real.

Well, were halfway there with 10 days left. Im hoping for the best as this project has really grown on me.

Might actually double my backing depending on how things go.

This is an awesome light, hope to see it for sale soon not on kickstarter. After being burnt by the Znaps and another kickstgarter project that never came through I don’t waste money on kickstarter anymore!!! It is a wonderful looking light and looks like you have put quite a bit of effort into it!!

If this were some random guy on Kickstarter, I’d be wary too. But it’s not. This is Hoop, not some anon who just wants to take the money and never deliver anything. If the money is transferred, he’ll deliver the items. The R&D is already done, with working items already out in people’s hands. Some Kickstarter projects are pretty high-risk, but that’s not the case here.

If I had the money, I’d pay off the other half of the Kickstarter myself. This light is worth being manifest. Sorry I’m poor. :weary:

You have successfully backed DARKSIDE | NYMPH

I’m in, this thing needs to be brought to life.

Hoop: interesting Kickstarter project :+1:

I hope you succeed, and joined as a backer as well.

Well guys, were down to the last ~48 hours. $5900/9000.

Im still optimistic, hopefully there will be a surge to push it over. We will see.

I just don’t understand how this level of work get’s overlooked, I find it amazing and virtually intoxicating, can’t resist.

Still hoping for the best… best of luck Hoop!

This light is a great punch, indeed!!!
I wish it can be produced on the KS project and eventually later if all goes well for Hoop and the project itself! I cannot commit to this at the moment as I have another thing I want to buy and money won’t stretch in Christmas time!
If it is available somewhere in tome next year after the KS project, I will probably try it! It would be my first 10440

Probably because of the only cell compatible with the light being a low capacity 10440 cell.

I know I would not buy the light anyway because of my tight hobby budget not allowing buying these sorts of lights, but had it been an AA sized light with compatibility for 14500s, I think more people would be interested in it.

I still wish Hoop best of lucks!

I think the recommended Efest cell is fine assuming you get a good one. It probably would help to support 1.5V batteries (I backed it anyways) but that changes everything about the driver. 14500 is already saturated with decent boost lights and 10180 is an even worse cell than 10440 and still manages to remain usable with 1/3 the capacity of this cell. In short, 14500 brings nothing to the table except bulk.

Yeah, but I’m too used to the huge capacity that 18650s offer, and the convenience of using regular NiMH AAAs/AAs.

I think the light looks amazing, and probably is.

But honestly though, it’s just not my type of light.

Idk, Ive been looking for a “better” 14500 light that keeps a thin profile with a nice deep carry clip. I havent found much of anything in that segment that I like either.

Either way, I like to collect what I can of things made “by hand” by an artisan. All the custom 18XXX lights are way out of my budget and I probably wouldnt carry them anyway because of width and especially the cost. Hoops product is something that is definitely a work of art, but perfectly EDC-able. No other lights ive come across incorporate a FET+1 driver let alone vias for updates.

Im game for a 10440 twisty as well as a 14500 clicky if it even approaches how the Nymph is built.

Ah, but see, therein lies the rub… Hoop is a young man taking a walk out onto the limb with this relatively small and simple project, if it doesn’t get backed to fruition who knows what he may have had up his sleeves? Makes it a lot more difficult to get the bigger projects going if the entry project doesn’t take off… and I for one really want to see what else Hoop has in mind!

Dale, that is my thought as well. I have a feeling that Brian has some very good ideas running around in his head and needs the nudge to make them happen!

I made a quick post in one of the facebook groups to remind people this is about to end. Hopefully it’ll reach its funding goal so things can move forward.

I think it’s one of the more interesting lights lately. Combination of capabilities and size is way above the competition unless we’re talking about several times more expensive customs. Even in the unlimited-budget class it would hold its own.
Then add nice looks, CRI 90….I can’t see a single weakness which happens…well…I can’t remember any previous case. Myself I would make some decisions differently, but I can’t say they would make the light genuinely better.

It’s one of those almost-superb-for-me lights. Not useful as it is but a small design change would make it superb. So I didn’t sign up. But I really with Hoop success because the job is so outstanding….
