Yeah… mine are still slowly trickling in.
any progress on your mod ?
I still new here, what makes me happy is that I can get most of the components easily !
As said before, the waiting is the hardest part
Not yet, just got the host in the mail.
Still waiting for the other parts.
do you have thermal paste? You should put that underneath the mcpcb(the copper plate the led sits on).
I already read that somewhere, I have some thermal paste left from my pc
very good. not nice if you have all the parts and forget one thing :confounded:
Do you have a charger and battery already?
I have some nice powerful jumper cables… Highly recommend you getting some… lol

Yep, have been using 18650 for many years already.
Just a small update, the LED got lost in the mail.
So I need to order a new one… the waiting continues
Hate it when that happens! My memory is bad enough that if the package takes too long to arrive I forget what it was for when it finally shows up!
The frustrating part is that I got the wrong host, I ordered black but got Tan.
So I am waiting for the new host, and the LED is lost
Now looking to buy an other one, hope that one arrives quickly.
On a key part, like the LED, I will usually order two or three when I need one, so if I mess up somehow during the build I don’t have to do the waiting all over again.
These days, with so many multi emitter lights, I find myself buying 20, 30, even 50 emitters at a time!
So, today was the day of the build.
Finally I received the LED so I was good to go.
The pictures below show some build-results. (Still need to take some beam shots)
I actually like that tan/gold color a lot! I just built a clear anodized one and pretty happy with it so far…
So, last week I managed to check out my new light.
The trees in the picture are, according to Google Earth, 180 meters away
Nice first build. Doesn’t the C8+ use a pill? The C8 uses a pill so you could easily swap the pill (with emitter and driver) for a different one. But the lack of a pill ensures better thermals so you can drive the led harder. If you don’t need the throw you could also swap the reflector for an Orange peel (OP) reflector.
By the way what tint did you pick? https://flashlightwiki.com/images/c/cb/Ansi-white.jpg

Not since the type-I C8 were pills used… that and really cheep-cheep-cheep C8 clones.
Since the type-II C8s and everything after, they all used an integrated shelf.
For low-stress lights, I liked those with pills for precisely that reason, to be able to swap ’em at will.
Back in the day the C8 was also my first build. Cheap and easy to build but also an ugly flashlight. I build a few of them for friends but I also noticed that the quality went downhill in time. For the looks I like the c8+ a lot better. But without a pill and also the only option to use 17mm drivers is a con in my book.

It does not use a pil, I have ordered 4300K
