3 volt XHP50.2

Looking forward to the Q8 numbers nkresho! But also how the beam quality is. I’m planning on the same build at some point.

Anyone know the anode (+) and cathode (-) side of these for sure? On the top I see one corner dot, and on the bottom, I see one electrical side with 1 break (2 pads) and the other side with 3 breaks (4 pads), but the latest CREE XHP50.2 datasheet doesn't cover the mounting of the 3V version.

I'm putting my first one, a 1D from Cutter, in a UranusFire C818. It's gotten a lot of bad coverage here on BLF for some reason (??), but mine is a nice oversize host, nice shelf.

My teardown here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/33266/26

This is what it has now:

It's got the robustness for high amps, plus can fit 26650's - I'll have to try 21700's to see if they fit.

When I don’t know off the top of my head, I usually just tap the pads with my multimeter set to diode/continuity/resistance and check which way makes it light up.

Ahhh, ohhhh. Uranus, get ready!!

Thanx!

Cathode has the dot.

I couldn’t wait for the 5400k emitters…

Wow, that is impressive. That Q8 must get silly hot!

I wish they had released these years ago and they would come in warmer high CRI tints.

You don’t seem to be getting much yellow corona. Is it there in person, but not showing up in pictures?

12k+ lumen! Nice!

Very nice result nkresho!

And with a very good photo-story too, you did all you can do to get the most out of the Q8 (without taking the really silly measures for an extra 1%).

Is the beam as good as it looks in the pictures?

It’s actually not yellowish at all. More blue in the corona that anything else. Pics are pretty representative, although uncorrected and from my cell phone.

Yeah, beam is pretty clean up to the edges, where the outside of an umbrella look is still there if you spin the light.

Also have a KD AR lens on it. Might account for a little bluish too.

Blf q8 50.2 3v mod continued

Looks like my Q8 XHP50.2 mod is a go then, looks really good. But I will have the patience to wait for a better colour and maybe 4000K 80CRI some day?

Are those the 1D 6100K-6500K you mentioned earlier?

I’m really surprised the corona is not yellow. Especially with SMO reflectors. Sometimes a heavy OP will blend the corona into the hotspot and kind of even out the color temperature.

I’ve always noticed AR lenses make the output a bit more yellow and clear lenses a bit less yellow.

Weird.

Whoa that is killer! Got the 5400’s coming, but I do have and like the 1D’s, put one in a Copper X6. Got 2 Q8 boards, just waiting on the Sofirn Q8 to show up!

The CW XHP LED’s do not seem to suffer the same tint shift issues as the warmer versions for some reason.

Yup, these are the first batch from cutter, the 1d 6250k.

I was planning to wait for the 5400s too (I have them coming Monday). Just couldn’t stand it.

I also ordered another q8 to mod. That comes tomorrow or Monday too. I sacrificed the one I already had on hand. No regrets there though, this thing is a beast.

All 3 of mine have the dreaded Yellow Dot ( + hair) in the middle of the hot spot when white walling them.

The triple C8F being the worse of them……

I should of said they don’t suffer from it as bad, it is still there, it is just not as noticable in the lights I have had CW emitters in. Since I try to stay away from CW I don’t have a ton of experience with them.

So I checked the cells when I put them back on the charger. One was still at 4.2, while the other three were at 3.9.

Charged them back up and got 15,972 at startup and 13,424 at 30 seconds. Pulled them and ended up with all cells discharged the same 4.0v.

Where did you get the copper part for the X6? Is it from kiriba-ru?
I got 2 EE X6 hosts this week. So i am looking for mod options.

No Sir, their from the BLF Limited Edition KRONOS GB. I swapped out the X6 copper pills for the Black Aluminum ones. I couldn’t stand the stock battery tubes, so I re-thread some A6 tubes to fit and offed (sold) the KRONOS X6 lights.

I like them better with the full round tubes, the way the should of been…
