3 volt XHP50.2

Here is a 50.2 in my L6 with SMO reflector.

Here it is with a lower exposure. You can see the center of the hot spot is a little darker, but it’s not really noticable in the regular pic above.

Same for the 70.2.

It was the older xhp50 and 70 that had the noticable donut hole beam shape.

In the same link as the original post: XHP50B-00-0000-0A00J4051 XHP50 IN 3 VOLT - Cutter Electronics , has listings for 1A, 1D and 3B both as a bare emitter and mounted on boards, but not in any kind of order.

Ahh, ok - guess I was on the right page

This is dome ON right?

Yes, this is the dome on.

I don’t think dome on or dome off makes a difference. Everything just scales down in size. The pattern stays the same. At least for the xhp70 it does. It’s hot spot just got smaller when I sliced it. The light distribution in the hot spot stayed the same.

I imagine the 50.2 or 70.2 have the same light distribution in the hotspot, it just scales down in size. Can anybody here confirm this?

Sofirn Q8 4xK2 3B0 5400k 3v 50.2’s……………………………………

Q8 K2 5400 to Triple C8F 1A 6500….tint…

YUCK! :confounded:

Iieewww :frowning:

Wait for the better tints perhaps then. Slicing may help reducing the green corona but the overall tint will get greener, so that does not really help.

Gone are the days when we accepted green when dedoming leds.

I’m sorry for you, I hate green too. That’s why I checked the 3B0 in the datasheet and found out that it will be really green. Despite I like warmer tints, I took 1D. It’s not perfect, it’s cold, but definitely better option that this.

I have not gotten the 3 Volt 50.2 emitter yet to find out first hand , but is the tint about the same as the 6 volt 50.2 emitter in the same Bin/Flux?

If so ……… Are you guys simply slicing the dome off or have you done the “Slice & Dice” method to reduce the Green or Olive that the 50.2 and 70.2 make?

I have had good luck with the 5700K 50.2’s in the past but wanted just a slightly warmer tint , so I tried a 6 volt 50.2 K2 3C / 5000K with the slice and dice and figured it would come out super warm. Although it is somewhat of a warm tint now , surprisingly it is not nearly as warm as I had anticipated it would be once I did the slice and dice.

I have also done a number of the 70.2 emitters with pretty good results getting rid of the Olive or Green with the slice and dice method.

For those who are wondering or haven’t seen the “dicing” part of the sliced emitters , you simply cut straight down beside the actual die after the dome is off and get rid of the phosphor that is around the die itself , which in turn gets rid of pretty much all of the green tint from the flip chip emitters …. just be very careful that you don’t nick the edge of the phosphor on the die itself or you will have a Blueish or light Purple ring around the hotspot. (Yes I know this from my first ever attempt at the dicing part of it…lol)

Here is a picture of the 70.2 in my ThruNite TC20 after it was sliced and diced ……….

And here is what the beam looked like before on a White Garage door (medium mode)………

And the same light and same emitter , only with the slice and dice done……….

Not the best picture of the emitter but , here is the sliced and diced 50.2 K2 3C / 5000K , that I put in 1 of my Maxtoch 2X a few weeks ago….

And what the sliced/diced 5000K 50.2 looks like out in the field by my house at 175 yards from the trees (No leaves yet on the trees in the picture)…….
(I don’t have any white wall shots of this one but I could get a couple if needed for reference)

Sliced & Diced 1 and De-domed 1 3v 50.2’s so far, got 10 more to go! I Dropped the de-domed (it was just about perfect one little tiny piece of silicone left on it) on the FLOOR, guess how it landed  , sliced and diced work good and then it started to burn on the Rock, it is soaking now in some Toluene.

Now I’m just checking the different tints and going for out-put, so I’ll pull 2 of the 5400’s and slap 2 6200 1D’s on the Q8 and offset the crap, might be nice, never know…

Here are some reads off the T/A Maukka calibrated light tube, the Sofirn Q8 with the K2 5400k 3v 50.2 with 18awg leads, Infineon FET, Blue Big Silver springs and 18awg bypass’s on them springs using VTC5A’s VTC5D’s and brand new Molicell P26A’s and new Samsung 20S cells…all off the MC3000 charger at 4.21v at turn on…

At 30 seconds it is extremely hot, too freaking hot to hold by the head! Tried getting some beam shots last night but is was Snowing! Maybe tonight….

If a couple of hundred to a thousand is “about the same”, then yes. That’s what he’s saying.

Looks like minor differences, similar to results what I see - 25S's getting the slight edge. What do those lux #'s means in terms of lumens? Dunno what your scale factor is.

Interested in the dice&slice #'s before/after - if/when you get them. Another great job here KB!!

My modded FF/SolarStorm SP03 has 3 SST-40's w/dome and gets about 265 kcd (~7000 lumens) now. Replacing with 3V XHP50.2's I expect slight loss in throw, maybe 5-10%, so thinking of dice&slice - if I get 40% boost in kcd, then could hit about 350 kcd, and roughly 10K-11K lumens.

It's really a decent mini Shocker - 3 nice size reflector cups, 85 mm head diameter, 4 parallel cells like an SRK/Q8.

Kawi is using a TA box, the number on the meter is the actual lumens. From 16,200 to 17,300 depending on the cell… I saw 14,824 from 30Q’s in my rebuilt light box yesterday with a similar set-up using the K2 2A 50.2 3V.

Ahhh, interesting - not sure how that works... I thought of this after I posted

Ohh - if this is ANSI calibrated, these are impressive #'s because my single 3V XHP50.2 light didn't get as high but measured 19 amps. Maybe I got loss's in the tail because that light (C818) does have a tailswitch, spring bypassed though. Something for me to check now...

He's also got 18 AWG all around which is better.. He's got a great setup there...

Tom, can you really compare throw and output of the 3V SST-40 to the 3V 50.2? I mean, it won’t correlate directly… like the suggested 40% gain in throw from slicing the domes off the 50.2’s, die surface is a lot bigger in the 50.2 so it won’t be the same as the SST-40, domed or not. I would be very surprised if that kind of gain came into play.

Pure speculation. Thought we got a nice boost on slicing the XHP70.2's, not as good as the old XM-L2, XP-G2, or XPL of course.

Think'n we got 100% boost on the old LED's, and under 50% on the XHP class? Not sure.

The output on the meter is calibrated by Texas_Ace when he builds them. The light goes through 3 diffusers which both diffuses the light as well as reduces output. This gets the readings close, but he still has to tweak the amount of light getting to the sensor so it reads 1:1. No multipliers or math needed. :+1:

That's pretty cool! Funny, never read up on them. I can pretty much do the cal math in my head now

Link is in my sig.
