Got mine today. First LH351D light. First 21700 light. First rechargeable light (which is great since the cell doesn’t fit my charger). And first 2-button light.
It’s still daylight but I am impressed. Nice, creamy tint. Feels great in the hand. And I love, love the clip!
Also, it’s pretty neat how the emmiters subtlety fade when powered off.
USPS attempted delivery today but no one was home to sign for it. I have rescheduled it for tomorrow via USPS.com, but let’s see if they can screw that up.
Just about dark enough now to go outside and play with one. Very cloudy so it should get quite dark here in the mountains… no glow in the sky from civilization.
OK. I love the beam, the shape or spread, no definite hot spot. And I love the color of light. I only had a headlight that is quite cool to compare to. The UI is very nice too. No photos. I don’t take very good beams with my phone. The LEDS have one odd behavior I have not seen before… they have a glow that slowly dims to dark when turned off. Takes a few seconds… just different. Could be a bother if you were needing to disappear into stealthiness, but no matter to me.
There is no Carclo, which has a frosted center (green). And the Wuben optics do not have this characteristic something (blue).
And here is a “sandwich”. I tried to center the left optics pin. Quite other dimensions.
Oh man, you’re right. It never was Carclo. Have to use a diffusing sheet to smooth the beam if necessary. Unless Wuben lets us know of an alternative. At least the optics they chose is a very good one.
It is the same TIR as the one in the FireFlies PL47.
EDIT : After doing a quick search on aliexpress then Alibaba for “4 in 1 led lens”, this one looks like to be a close match.
It’s easier and cheaper for flashlight manufacturers to use local parts instead of importing them, then I would assume that FireFlies and Wuben used this one or a clone of :
Considering the lower quality of the one used in the PL47 with mold defects, it was probably a clone or a “QC rejected” batch.
Just got my light today. The fade-off is definitely weird, but I think it’s growing on me. Tint is perfect! Definitely a sturdy light, and the magnet is plenty strong for everything I’ve used the light with. Thanks for the GB the!
Probably a resultant of the boost driver circuit that gradually discharged itself once the power is cut off. I’m not sure of that though but seems logical if there is a capacitive effect involved.
EDIT : A pity that there is no glass lens in this flashlight. :person_facepalming:
