Ordered one in /A, I’m also interested in another one in SST-20 if it’s still possible

I love all kinds of lights... storm lanterns, kosmos & matador lamps, gas lanterns, tallow lanterns, flashlights, lasers, tritium vials...

I got my PM at 4:34am, exactly on time. Awesome work, TK! I ordered a 3D and a 7A and will order 2 more when the SST-20’s come out.

Thanks so much to everyone involved!

Mike

Why is the inferior led more expensive?
This has been talked about at least a hundred times already. The SST 20 is a cheaper LED. The XP-L HI is more expensive.

We have known for months on end about the price difference. Have you not been keeping up??

The XP-L HI is not an “inferior led” either. It is a great Medium CRI emitter.

Excellent response. Excellent restraint too. I would have had a tough time not being more punitive! Thumbs Up

The premise goes well beyond this thread. If you look at any multiple emitter option lights for sale, you’ll find that SST-20 is not a pricier option. So someone coming along as a new member and declaring XP-L HI inferior, is extraordinarily ignorant. To make it less so, they could have framed it a very different way, first admitting their lack of knowledge, then stating they didn’t understand why the price difference by emitter and if someone could explain it or point them to a source to read.

Since we aren’t closed yet, I’ve ordered my first, have reserved a second for hi CRI. May want a third when I pick up number two. So if necessary, I’d like to list for a third. Thanks again guys! Beyond excited!

I’m an old member and declare the XP-L HI inferior to the SST-20 in several ways (throw, CRI)…except for its price. Big Smile

Thanks to the team for gettimg this over the line. Ordered a 7D, looking forward to the warmth! Probably like one of the other emitters too, please add me to the list again if necessary (was only down for 1).

Yes, all TIR lens from the same series (105xx) which share the same footprint, diameter and heigh will fit. Have fun with swapping and experimenting, first step to modding.
(Check each one’s PDF and compare dimensions if you have a doubt).

Er, I enjoy little puzzles like that anyway. I doubt everyone does though.

Like, we were watching a sitcom one night and they posited a puzzle. So when the show was over, I went to go work out the answer. I ended up staying up too late because it was trickier than expected, but by golly, I finally found a solution.

FWIW, the puzzle was this:

  • You are presented with a set of twelve identical diamonds, each one extremely valuable. Same size, same shape, same color, everything. Except one of them is fake, and it weighs more or less than the others.
  • Along with these, you also have access to a balancing scale — the “scales of justice” type with two hanging platters, so it can only tell you which side weighs more.
  • If you can determine which one is fake, you get to keep them all. Otherwise, you keep none of the diamonds.
  • You can only determine the answer using the scale, and you can only use it three times.
  • You must decide exactly which three measurements to make in advance, before you have actually measured anything.
  • You don’t actually get to touch the goods. Someone else does the measurements and lets you see the result of each.
  • The diamonds will only be given to you if you can prove that your method always works. They won’t give you anything if you guess which one is fake but can’t provide a reliable algorithm.

So, how do you figure out which one is fake?

Oh, and then they add in one more detail: If you like, you can double your payout if you attempt the problem for thirteen diamonds — but in that case, getting a wrong answer will land you in jail. So there is a harder version for those who are willing to play with higher stakes. Everything is the same except there is one more real diamond in the set, and you can also use one dummy weight which has the same mass as a real diamond.

Any ideas?

Dammit TK I thought you were a nice person. I just stayed up an extra half hour trying to work that out Glasses . I reckon I’ve got the answer but I’m not about to try and type it out. I took pictures of my scribbles though. I came up with 4 scenarios.

That’s really cool. What’s the best source to order Carlco optics from?
Edit:
Carlco optics are very cheap and easy available in local shops.

I thin I’ll buy all available 105xx optics.

I’d say Arrow is your best bet. Prices are low and shipping is free.

You’ll know. Just look for the spike in a thousand posts in about a day. There will be the following spikes:

1. Now, because it’s ready to order. “I just got a PM telling me it’s ready to order! Yeah!” “I just placed my order. Yeah!”

2. In about 3-4 weeks, when people start getting them. “I just got a delivery notice! Yeah!” “I just opened the box! Yeah” “Etc.”

3. In about 4-5 weeks, when people start complaining about flaws. “OMG! The tailclip has a hole in it! I thought it wouldn’t have a hole! This is an outrage!”

4. Sometime soon after that, when the SST-20 version becomes available to order.

Repeat.

So, just look for the 4th spike.
